HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Emergency Overview

DANGER! Corrosive. Causes irreversible eye damage and
skin burns. Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin.
Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Keep away from
domestic animals. Wear goggles or face shield. Wear
protective clothing and rubber gloves. Wash thoroughly with
soap and water after handling. Remove contaminated clothing
and wash clothing before reuse.

Potential Health Effects

Skin contact with Ethephon may cause skin corrosion, burns or
ulcers. Ethephon may cause skin sensitization with allergic
reactions.

Eye contact with Ethephon may cause eye corrosion with ulceration;
blindness may result. Vapors or sprays (mists) are irritating to
the eyes and may cause tearing, pain or blurred vision.

Inhalation of Ethephon may cause irritation of the respiratory
tract with choking, coughing, and burning of the throat.

Ingestion may cause burns of the mouth, throat, esophagus and
stomach with severe pain, bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea and
collapse of blood pressure - damage may appear days after exposure.

Repeated exposures of Ethephon may produce cholinesterase
inhibition, red blood cell and kidney effects.

Individuals with preexisting diseases of the skin may have
increased susceptibility to the toxicity of excessive exposures.

Carcinogenicity Information

None of the components present in this material at concentrations
equal to or greater than 0.1% are listed by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH
as a carcinogen.

minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for
treatment advice.

IF SWALLOWED: Call a poison control center or doctor
immediately for treatment advice. Have person sip a glass
of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless
told to do so by the poison control center or doctor. Do
not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

IF INHALED: Move person to fresh air. If person is not
breathing, call 911 or an ambulance, then give artificial
respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth, if possible. Call a
poison control center or doctor for further treatment
advice.

Have the product container or label with you when calling
a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment.
For medical emergencies involving this product, call
toll free 1-800-441-3637. See Label for Additional
Precautions and Directions for Use.

Notes to Physicians

There is no specific antidote. All treatment should be
based on observed signs and symptoms of distress in the
patient. Overexposure to materials other than this product
may have occurred. Victims of severe overexposure, by
inhalation, should be kept under medical observation for up
to 72 hours for delayed onset of pulmonary edema. Probable
mucosal damage may contraindicate the use of gastric
lavage. This material is an acid, but use of alkaline
substances to neutralize it is contraindicated.

EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Engineering Controls

When handlers use closed systems, enclosed cabs, or aircraft
in a manner that meets the requirements listed in the Worker
Protection Standard (WPS) for agricultural pesticides (40
CFR 170.240(d)(4-6)), the handler PPE requirements may be
reduced or modified as specified in the WPS.

Personal Protective Equipment

Some of the materials that are chemical-resistant to this
product are listed below. If you want more options, follow
the instructions for category A on an EPA chemical-
resistance category selection sheet.

Applicators and other handlers must wear:
- Coveralls over short-sleeved shirt and short pants.
- Chemical-resistant gloves made of any waterproof
material such as polyvinyl chloride, nitrile
rubber, or butyl rubber.
- Chemical-resistant footwear plus socks.
- Protective eyewear.
- Chemical-resistant headgear for overhead exposure.
- Chemical-resistant apron when cleaning equipment.

Discard clothing and other absorbent materials that have
been drenched or heavily contaminated with this product鈥檚
concentrate. Do not reuse them. Follow manufacturer鈥檚
instructions for cleaning/maintaining PPE. If no such
instruction for washables, use detergent and hot water.
Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry.

PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is
permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and
that involves contact with anything that has been
treated, such as plants, soil, or water, is:
- Coveralls over short-sleeved shirt and short pants.
- Chemical-resistant gloves made of any waterproof
material such as polyvinyl chloride, nitrile
rubber, or butyl rubber.
- Chemical-resistant shoes plus socks.
- Protective eyewear.
- Chemical-resistant headgear for overhead exposure.

Notify workers of the application by warning them orally and
by posting warning signs at entrances to treated areas.

inflammation of the skin but no systemic toxicity was observed.

Ethephon has not caused carcinogenicity, developmental,
reproductive, or fertility effects in animals. Tests have shown
that Ethephon does not cause genetic damage in bacterial or
mammalian cell cultures. Ethephon did not produce chromosome
aberrations in mice.
