SECTION 3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
LABEL PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS: FLAMMABLE
Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. May cause skin irritation. May cause digestive
tract irritation. May cause eye irritation. May cause blindness if swallowed.
NFPA Ratings (SCALE 0-4): HEALTH=2 FIRE=3 REACTIVITY=0
MAJOR HEALTH HAZARDS: Respiratory tract irritation, eye irritation and
blood damage.
PHYSICAL HAZARDS: Flammable liquid and vapor. Vapor may cause flash
fire.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
INHALATION:
May cause liver and kidney damage. Inhalation or ingestion causes narcotic
intoxication leading to headache, cramps, severe pain and blindness. Kidney and
liver damage may occur with possible heart or respiratory failure to coma and
death. Some symptoms may be delayed for days.
SKIN CONTACT: Skin contact can result in defatting and dermatitis.
EYE CONTACT: Eye contact may result in corneal lesions, vision loss or
impairment, pain or blindness. 5 ppm (concentrated methanol) and 40 mg
reported to cause moderate irritation.
INGESTION: May be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed.
CHRONIC: blurred or painful vision, conjunctivitis, and possible mutagenic or
reproductive effects.
CARCINOGEN STATUS:
-OSHA: No.
-NTP: No.
-IARC: No.
SECTION 4. FIRST-AID MEASURES
SEEK MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR ANY OVEREXPOSURE.
SKIN: Wash thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing
contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention.
EYES: Immediately flush thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes occasionally
lifting upper and lower lids until no evidence of chemical remains. Get medical aid at
once.
INGESTION: Contact local Poison Control Center or physician immediately. Induce
vomiting (touch finger to back of throat) keeping head lower than hips (prevent aspiration
to lungs). Give sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), 2 teaspoons in glass of water. Never
give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
INHALATION: Give artificial respiration if necessary. Get medical aid. Keep victim
warm, at rest. Move victim to fresh air.
SECTION 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
GENERAL INFORMATION: Vapors heavier than air may travel considerable distance
and flash back from source of ignition. Flammable liquid is poisonous-wear respiratory
gear. Use flooding quantities of water as fog (streams may spread fire), cool all
containers. Dangerous fire/negligible explosion hazard when exposed to heat or flame.
Hazardous reactions with strong oxidizers. Vapor air mixtures explosive.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: For small fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water
spray or alcohol-resistant foam.
SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES: Wear self鈥揷ontained breathing apparatus
and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

AUTOIGNITION: 725掳F (385 藲C)
EXPLOSION LIMITS: Upper: 6.7 Lower: 36
NFPA Rating: health-2; flammability-3; Reactivity-0
SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated below.
Evacuate all unnecessary personnel. Wear a respirator, chemical safety goggles, rubber
boots and rubber gloves. Turn off all sources of ignition. Absorb with sand or
vermiculite and place in a closed container. Wash spill site with soapy water.
Notify Local Emergency Planning Committee and State Emergency Response
Commission for releases greater than or equal to RQ (U.S. SARA Section 304).
If release occurs in the U.S. and is reportable under CERCLA Section 103, notify the
National Response Center at (800) 424-8802 (USA) or (202) 426-2675 (USA).
SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Store and handle in accordance with all current regulations and standards. Keep separated
from incompatible substances. Store in a cool dry place.
SECTION 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND
PERSONAL PROTECTION
ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Local exhaust ventilation may be necessary to control
any air contaminants to within their TLV鈥檚 during the use of this product. Ventilation
equipment must be explosion proof.
EXPOSURE LIMIT (Methanol):
200ppm ACGIH TWA
250ppm ACGIH STEL
200ppm NIOSH TWA
200ppm NIOSH mg/m3 TWA
200 ppm OSHA TWA
260 ppm OSHA mg/m3 TWA
OSHA vacated PEL鈥檚 200 ppm TWA; 260 mg/m3 TWA
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUPMENT:
EYES: Do not wear contact lenses when working with chemicals. An eye wash fountain
should be available in the immediate work area. Wear splash proof safety goggles.
SKIN: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.
CLOTHING: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
RESPIRATORS: Firefighting- any self contained breathing apparatus with full face piece
operated in pressure demand mode. Use supplied air (SA) respirators or self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA) at 2000 ppm,; SA or SCBA with face piece at 10,000 ppm;
above 10,000 ppm use type C SAF in positive pressure/continuous flow mode; positive
pressure, SCBA for escape.
