HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Emergency Overview

DANGER! Corrosive. Causes irreversible eye damage. Do not
get in eyes or on clothing. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled
or absorbed through skin. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or
clothing. Avoid breathing spray mist.

Potential Health Effects

Inhalation: Harmful if inhaled. Sprays (mists) are
irritating to the respiratory tract.
Signs and symptoms may include choking,
coughing, burning of the throat.
Eye Contact: Corrosive. Causes irreversible eye
damage, seen as corneal opacity. Vapors
or sprays (mists) are irritating to the
eyes. Causes tearing, redness, and
possible swelling of the conjunctiva.
Skin Contact: Causes skin irritation, seen as marked
redness and swelling.
Skin Absorption: Harmful if absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. May cause severe
irritation of the mouth, throat, esophagus
and stomach with severe abdominal and
chest pain.

Chronic:
Repeated overexposure may cause bronchial irritation, with
persistent cough and predisposition to respiratory
infections.

Existing Medical Conditions Possibly Aggravated by Exposure:
Skin irritation may be aggravated in persons with existing
skin lesions. Breathing of vapor or sprays (mists) may
aggravate acute and chronic asthma and other chronic
pulmonary diseases.

Carcinogenicity Information

None of the components present in this material at concentrations
equal to or greater than 0.1% are listed by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH
as a carcinogen.

FIRST AID MEASURES

First Aid

IF IN EYES: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently
with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if
present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing
eye. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment
advice.

IF ON SKIN OR CLOTHING: Take off contaminated clothing.
Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20
minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for
treatment advice.

IF SWALLOWED: Call a poison control center or doctor
immediately for treatment advice. Have person sip a glass
of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless
told to do so by the poison control center or doctor. Do
not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

IF INHALED: Move person to fresh air. If person is not
breathing, call 911 or an ambulance, then give artificial
respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth, if possible. Call a
poison control center or doctor for further treatment
advice.

Have the product container or label with you when calling
a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment.
For medical emergencies involving this product, call
toll free 1-800-441-3637. See Label for Additional
Precautions and Directions for Use.

Notes to Physicians

There is no specific antidote. Treat symptomatically.
Consideration should be given to the possibility that
overexposure to materials other than this product may have
occurred. Acid ingestion may cause gastroesophageal
perforation. Perforation may occur within 72 hours, but
along with abscess formation, may occur weeks later. Due to
the corrosive property of this material, emesis is
contraindicated. Probable mucosal damage may contraindicate
the use of gastric lavage. The use of alkaline substances
to neutralize the acid is contraindicated. Victims of
severe overexposure by inhalation should be kept under
medical observation for up to 72 hours for delayed onset
of pulmonary edema.

Fire Fighting Instructions

Dike off area to prevent runoff and contamination of water
sources. Thermal decomposition products of this material
may be hazardous. These may include hydrogen chloride gas.
Isolate damage area and keep unauthorized personnel out.
Stop spill/release if it can be done with minimal risk.
Move undamaged containers from danger area if it can be done
with minimal risk. Water spray may be useful in minimizing
or dispersing vapors. Cool equipment exposed to fire with
water if it can be done with minimal risk.

Fire Fighting Equipment:
Wear protective clothing and self contained breathing
apparatus. Wear other appropriate equipment as conditions
warrant.

Hazardous Combustion Products:
Thermal decomposition products may be hazardous. These may
include hydrogen chloride. This material will vigorously
decompose, releasing carbon dioxide, if heated above 80掳C
(176掳F). The potential for tank rupture exists if material
is heated to decomposition. Closed containers exposed to
extreme heat can rupture due to pressure buildup. Dilute
material in contact with common metals can generate
hydrogen, which can form flammable mixtures with air.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Safeguards (Personnel)

NOTE: Review FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES and HANDLING (PERSONNEL)
sections before proceeding with clean-up. Use appropriate
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT during clean-up.

Spill Clean Up

Dike large spills using absorbent or impervious materials
such as sand or clay. Recover and contain as much free
liquid as possible. Recover remaining spilled material as
appropriate. Collect and contain contaminated absorbent
and dike material for disposal. Absorb small spills on sand
or vermiculite. Place contaminated material in appropriate
container for disposal.

If spilled on the ground, the affected area should be
removed to a depth of one or two inches and placed in an
appropriate container for disposal. Do not flush material
to public sewer systems or any waterways. Wear appropriate
protective clothing and equipment during cleanup activities.

Ensure adequate decontamination of tools and equipment
following cleanup.

HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling (Personnel)

USERS SHOULD: Wash thoroughly with soap and water after
handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, or using
tobacco. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before
reuse.

Handling (Physical Aspects)

Do not allow this product to be heated above 176掳F, as the
quality of the product may deteriorate. If product is
heated above 230掳F, vigorous decomposition may occur. Do not
weld equipment containing this product.

CLOTHING: This product can attack cotton, nylon and leather
clothing. If product contacts clothing of this type, flush
with plenty of water to minimize damage.

DO NOT MIX with materials containing chlorates as this
could result in the formation of hypochlorous acids which
on heating will emit toxic chlorine fumes.

Storage

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage.

Material crystalizes below 32掳F. Do not heat above 176掳F.

Materials recommended for use with this product include
polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, CPVC, fiberglass made with
reinforced resins such as polyesters and epoxides, most
rubbers and 316 stainless steel.

Do not expose mild steel, leather, nylon, or acid
sensitive resins such as delrin and celcon to undiluted
product.

EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

# Engineering Controls

When handlers use closed systems, enclosed cabs, or aircraft
in a manner that meets the requirements listed in the Worker
Protection Standard (WPS) for agricultural pesticides (40
CFR 170.240(d)(4-6)), the handler PPE requirements may be
reduced or modified as specified in the WPS.

IMPORTANT: When reduced PPE is worn because a closed system
is being used, handlers must be provided all PPE specified
above for "Applicators and Other Handlers" and have such PPE
immediately available for use in an emergency, such as a
spill or equipment breakdown.

Personal Protective Equipment

Some of the materials that are chemical-resistant to this
product are listed below. If you want more options, follow
the instructions for Category A on an EPA chemical-resistant
category selection chart.

Applicators and other handlers must wear:
- Long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
- Chemical-resistant gloves.
- Shoes plus socks.
- Protective eyewear.

Discard clothing and other absorbent materials that have
been drenched or heavily contaminated with this product鈥檚
concentrate. Do not reuse them. Follow manufacturer鈥檚
instructions for cleaning/maintaining PPE. If no such
instruction for washables, use detergent and hot water.
Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry.

PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is
permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and that
involves contact with anything that has been treated, such
as plants, soil, or water, is:
- Long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
- Chemical-resistant gloves.
- Shoes plus socks.
- Protective eyewear.

Notify workers of the application by warning them orally and
posting signs at entrances to treated areas.

Animal Data

Oral LD50 : > 500 and < 5,000 mg/kg in rats
4-hour Inhalation LC50: > 2.05 mg/L in rats
Skin Absorption LD50 : > 2,000 mg/kg in rats

Animal testing indicated that FirstPick produced severe
eye irritation and moderate skin irritation in standard
primary irritation studies. In a study involving longer
skin contact (24 vs. 4 hours), severe skin irritation
occurred. FirstPick was not a skin sensitizer.

Single ingestion exposure to high levels produced hunched
posture, hypoactivity, piloerection, irregular respiration,

pale coloration, prone posture, and prostration. No animal
data are available to define the carcinogenicity,
developmental, reproductive, or mutagenic hazards of

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Waste Disposal

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by disposal.

Pesticide wastes are acutely hazardous. Improper disposal
of excess pesticide, spray mixture or rinsate is a violation
of Federal Law. If these wastes cannot be disposed of by
use according to label instructions, contact your State
Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency or the Hazardous
Waste representative at the nearest EPA Regional Office for
guidance.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
This product may be harmful to wildlife directly sprayed.
Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface
water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high
water mark. Do not contaminate water when disposing of
equipment washwaters. Do not apply in any manner not
specified on the label.

# Container Disposal

For Plastic Containers: Triple rinse (or equivalent). Then
offer for recycling or reconditioning, or puncture and
dispose of in a sanitary landfill, or incineration, or, if
allowed by State and local authorities, by burning. If
burned, stay out of smoke.

For Fiber Sacks: Completely empty fiber sack by shaking and
tapping sides and bottom to loosen clinging particles.
Empty residue into manufacturing or application equipment.
Then dispose of sack in a sanitary landfill or by or
incineration, or, if allowed by State and local authorities,
by burning. If burned, stay out of smoke.

For Fiber Drums With Liners: Completely empty liner by
shaking and tapping sides and bottom to loosen clinging
particles. Empty residue into application equipment. Then
dispose of liner in a sanitary landfill or by incineration

if allowed by State and local authorities. If drum is
contaminated and cannot be reused, dispose of in the same
manner.

For Bags Containing Water Soluble Packets: Do not reuse
the outer box or the resealable plastic bag. When all
water-soluble packets are used, the outer packaging should
be clean and may be disposed of in a sanitary landfill or by
incineration, or if allowed by state and local authorities,
by open burning. If burned, stay out of smoke. If the
resealable plastic bag contacts the formulated product in
any way, the bag must be triple rinsed with clean water.
Add the rinsate to the spray tank and dispose of the outer
wrap as described above.

For Metal Containers (non aerosol): Triple rinse (or
equivalent) the container. Then offer for recycling or
reconditioning, or puncture and dispose of in a
sanitary landfill, or by other procedures approved by
State and local authorities.

For Paper and Plastic Bags: Completely empty bag into
application equipment. Then dispose of empty bag in a
sanitary landfill or by incineration, or, if allowed by
State and local authorities, by burning. If burned, stay
out of smoke.

Container Refilling and Disposal (For Containers up to
250 gal): Refer to the product label.

If the container is to be refilled, do not rinse with any
material or introduce any pesticide other than this
product.

Container Disposal for Bulk Containers: Refer to the
product label.

The container must only be refilled with this pesticide
product. DO NO REUSE THE CONTAINER FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE.
Do not transport if the container is damaged or leaking.
Disposal of the container must be in compliance with State
and local regulations.

For minor spills, leaks, etc., follow all precautions
indicated on the product label and clean up immediately.
Take special care to avoid contamination of equipment and
facilities during cleanup procedures and disposal of wastes.
