Stable
Stability
Sources of ignition.
Conditions to avoid
Incompatible Reacts violently with strong oxidizers such as bromine, bromates, chlorine, chlorates, fluorine,
substances peroxides, perchlorates, nitrates, and nitric acid. Forms explosive, shock-sensitive, or pyrophoric
mixtures with ammonia, ammonium nitrate, metal carbides, charcoal, hydrocarbons, and iron. Reacts
violently with potassium, lithium, sodium, tin, uranium, and zinc. Attacks steel when moist.

SECTION 6 鈥? HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Inhalation Ingestion
Route of Entry Hazardous Contact Eye
Skin absorption Eye Skin contact
Acute exposure Conjunctivitis. Inflammation of the nasal membranes. Sneezing. Coughing. Shortness of breath, asthma.
Contact with hot sulphur will cause severe burns to skin and eyes.
H2S is very toxic. At concentrations as low as 1 to 5 ppm, nausea and severe eye irritation may occur. Sense
of smell may be impaired at about 20 ppm, with headache and respiratory tract irritation. At 250 to 500 ppm,
potentially fatal pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs) may occur. Dizziness, sudden (often fatal) collapse,
unconsciousness, and death occur at higher concentrations.
Note: Pulmonary edema may be delayed as long as 48 hours after exposure.
Chronic exposure Ulceration of skin. Repeated contact may induce allergic response.
Carcinogenicity Not identified by ACGIH, EPA, Irritancy Skin, eyes, and respiratory tract
Sensitization Repeated contact may induce allergic response
IARC, NIOSH, NTP, or OSHA as
Teratogenicity Not available
a carcinogen.
Not available Reproductive toxicity Not available
Mutagenicity
Toxicologically synergistic Other irritants are expected to have an additive effect.
SECTION 7 鈥? FIRST AID
Inhalation Move victim to fresh air Give artificial respiration if breathing has stopped and if a qualified AR administrator is
available. Apply CPR if both pulse and breathing have stopped. Obtain medical attention immediately.
Ingestion Never give anything by mouth if the person is unconscious, rapidly losing consciousness, or convulsing. If the
person is conscious, have them drink 8 to 10 ounces of water or milk to dilute the material in the stomach. Do not
induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, have the person lean forward to avoid aspiration. Obtain
medical attention immediately.
If irritation occurs, flush eye with lukewarm, gently flowing fresh water for at least 15 minutes.
Eye
Skin Quickly and gently blot away excess chemical. Gently remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash gently and
thoroughly with water and non-abrasive soap. Get medical help. Note: Removal of solidified molten material from
skin requires medical assistance.
SECTION 8 鈥? PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Do not attempt rescue of an H2S knockdown victim without the use of proper respiratory protective equipment.
Personal Gloves Heat-resistant.
protective Eye Full eye and face protection.
equipment Respirator Generally, if respiratory protection is needed, a NIOSH-approved SCBA or air line respirator will be
y the appropriate choice. A full facepiece is recommended. Air-purifying respirators should be used
only on the advice of a qualified occupational health and safety professional.
Clothing & Heat-resistant body covering. If clothing or footwear becomes contaminated with product, completely
footwear decontaminate it before re-use, or discard it.

Procedure form, contain if possible by forming barrier and allow spilled material to solidify. Small dry spills may be
carefully shoveled into a clean, dry, covered container for recovery or later disposal. Large spills of solid
material may be wetted down with water and diked for later disposal. May be covered with inert material, such
as limestone, while awaiting recovery or disposal. Prevent entry into sewers or waterways.
Waste disposal Consult local authorities for advice.
Storage
Tightly-closed containers. Cool, well-ventilated area, protected from damage. No oxidizers or ignition sources.
Shipping May be transported in molten form.
