HEALTH HAZARDS
Health Hazard Slightly corrosive. Due to the low vapour pressure of this product an inhalation hazard is not anticipated under
normal conditions of use. Use safe work practices to avoid eye or skin contact and vapour/mist
Summary
generation-inhalation. Upon dilution, the potential for corrosive effects will be reduced.
Eye Slightly corrosive - irritant. Exposure may result in lacrimation, pain, redness and possible corneal burns with
prolonged contact.
Inhalation Low irritant. Over exposure at high levels may result in mucous membrane irritation of the upper respiratory tract (ie.
nose and throat) and coughing. However, due to the low vapour pressure, adverse health effects are not anticipated
under normal conditions of use.
Skin Slightly corrosive - irritant. Prolonged and repeated contact may result in irritation, skin rash, dermatitis, blisters and
burns.
Ingestion Slightly corrosive. Ingestion may result in burns to the mouth and throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Large
doses may result in gastrointestinal inflammation-corrosion.
PRECAUTIONS
Flammability Non flammable. May evolve highly toxic gases (chlorides, hydrogen chloride) when heated to decomposition. May
evolve highly flammable - explosive hydrogen gas when in contact with metals.
Reactivity Incompatible with oxidising agents (eg peroxides), alkalis (eg. hydroxides) and active metals (eg. sodium, aluminium,
potassium).
Ventilation Do not inhale vapours. Use in well ventilated areas. In poorly ventilated areas, mechanical extraction ventilation is
recommended.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
PPE Wear coveralls, splash-proof goggles or a faceshield and PVC or rubber gloves. Where an inhalation risk exists,
wear a Type B (Inorganic and Acid gas) Respirator.

FIRST AID
Eye If in eyes, hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water. Continue flushing for at least 15
minutes.
Inhalation If exposure occurs leave exposure area immediately. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
Skin If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water.
Ingestion For advice, contact a Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 (Australia Wide) or a doctor. If swallowed, do not
induce vomiting.
SAFE HANDLING
Storage Store in secured, cool, dry, well ventilated area, removed from oxidising agents, alkalis, most metals, heat sources
and foodstuffs. Ensure containers are adequately labelled, protected from physical damage and sealed when not in
use. Check regularly for leaks or spills. Large storage areas should have appropriate fire prevention and ventilation
systems.
Waste Disposal Neutralise with lime, weak alkali or similar. For small amounts absorb with sand or similar and dispose of to an
approved landfill site. Contact the manufacturer for additional information.
Transport Not regulated for transport purposes.
EMERGENCY
Spillage If spilt, contact emergency personal if appropriate. Wear splash-proof goggles, PVC/rubber gloves, coveralls or a
labcoat and boots. Cover with sodium bicarbonate or soda ash-slaked lime (50:50) mixture and treat as for Waste
Disposal. Wash spill site with soda ash solution. Caution spill site may be slippery.
Environment If hydrochloric acid is spilled on soil, it will infiltrate. During its transport through soil, the acid will dissolve some of
the soil material, in particular carbonates, and will be neutralised to some degree. However, significant amounts of
acid are expected to remain for transport down to groundwater. Toxic to aquatic invertebrates at low levels (LC50:
1.21 ppm/96 hours).
Fire and Non flammable. If product is present in a fire, toxic gases may be evolved. Evacuate area and contact emergency
services. Remain upwind and notify those downwind of hazard. Wear full protective equipment including Self
Explosion
Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when combating fire. Use waterfog to cool intact containers and nearby
storage areas.
Extinguishing Non flammable. Prevent contamination of drains or waterways, absorb runoff with sand or similar.
