(II) sulphate, magnesium (2+) sulfate, Epsom salts, Epsomite, bitter salts

3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Not classified as dangerous
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Accidental over exposure may cause the following symptoms:
Skin contact: May cause irritation to broken skin. Wash the affected area with
soap and water
Eye contact: R36 Irritating to eyes. May cause irritation. Irrigate eyes with
copious amounts of eyewash solution or water for at least 10
minutes. Obtain medical advice if symptoms persist.
Ingestion: May be harmful if ingested in quantity causing diarrhea, thirst,
hypotension and respiratory depression. Rinse out mouth with
plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Inhalation: R37 Irritating to respiratory system. High concentrations of dust
may cause irritation to trachea and lungs. Remove from source of
exposure to dust. Keep warm and at rest.
Obtain medical advice if symptoms persist.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Non-flammable
Extinguishing media: If involved in a fire use water spray or dry powder.
Unsuitable extinguishing media 鈥? NONE
Exposure hazard: In intense heat, product decomposition will release toxic fumes.
Special protective equipment: Wear self contained breathing apparatus in confined
spaces.
Contain contaminated run-off.
Note also first aid precautions (4).
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Clean up spillage promptly. Sweep up and place in a clean appropriately labelled
container

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
7.1 Handling: Do not block stack pallets
7.2 Storage: Store in original container, tightly closed in a secure, well ventilated,
cool but frost-free, dry area. Store clear of foodstuffs and in a
separate stack from herbicides.
Ensure high standard of house-keeping in the storage areas. Do not
permit smoking or use of naked lights in the storage area. Buildings
used for storage should be dry and well ventilated, stacks therein
should be at least 1 metre from walls, eaves and beams. Further
storage guidance is given in HSE Guidance IND(G)230L.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION
S26 In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and
seek medical advice.
8.1 Occupational exposure limits: No specific official limits
ACGIH recommended value (1995-1996) for inhalable particulate:
TLV/TWA 10mg/m3 (8hr), total respirable 5mg/m3 (8hr).
8.2 Precautionary and engineering measures
Avoid high dust concentration and provide ventilation where necessary.
8.3 Personal Protection
Wear suitable gloves when handling the product over long periods.
Use suitable dust respirator if dust concentration is high.
After handling product, wash hands and observe good hygiene practice.

9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Appearance: White powder.
Odour : Odourless.
pH water solution (100g/l): Usually > 4.5.
Bulk density: Normally between 900-1100kg/m3 .
Solubility in water : Readily soluble in water
10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
Effloresces in dry air. Stable under normal conditions. Incompatible with strong
oxidizing agents.
11. TOXICOLOGY INFORMATION
May be harmful by inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption.
May cause irritation.
Can cause central nervous system depression.
Muscle weakness: lungs thorax or respiration and other changes.
Oral man TD Lo 428 mg/kg.
Cardiac 鈥? other changes:cyanosis.
Intravenous woman LD Lo 80mg/kg
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Magnesium and sulphur are important secondary nutrients and can be found in
significant quantities in some soils.
12.1 Mobility: Partially soluble in water.
12.2 Ecotoxicity Low toxicity to aquatic life.
13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Depending on the degree of contamination, dispose of by spreading thinly on open
ground or to an authorized waste facility. Disposal in accordance with
Environmental Protection Act 1990.
