FIRE HAZARDS
Will volatilize in general fire. Reacts with metals to form flammable hydrogen gas. Releases
corrosive gas when heated. Do not inhale fumes. Thallium fumes or vapors may result.
Firefighters wear SCBA. NFPA # 2-0-1.
HEALTH HAZARDS
Corrosive and irritating to eyes, skin and mucous membranes. Consider poisonous all routes. LD 50
(oral-mouse) (TlNO 3) 33 mg/kg. Human lethal dose of thallium is 0.5-1.0 g. Cumulative effects.
Reproductive system effects. Depilatory. OSHA PEL/ACGIH TLV: TWA 2 ppm (HNO 3); ACGIH TLV-STEL
4 ppm (HNO 3); TWA 0.1 mg(Tl)/m 3. No evidence of carcinogenicity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Wear goggles and rubber gloves while handling. Eye wash and emergency drench shower required
in work area.
FIRST AID
Wash contact area thoroughly with water. If eye irritation persists, see a physician. If
swallowed, give water or milk and DO NOT induce vomiting. Call a physician.
SPILLS & LEAKS
Contain spill. Take up in absorbent. Disposal to hazardous waste.
