I nhalation of high concentrations of vapor may be harmful and may cause heart
irregularities, unconsciousness, or death. I ntentional misuse can be fatal. Vapor
reduces oxygen available for breathing and is heavier than air.

T he compound is a skin irritant, is a mild eye irritant, and is not a skin sensitizer in
animals.

2
1,1,-Dichloro-1-fluoroethane is a mild eye irritant, is a skin irritant or a skin sensitizer
in animals. Single exposure by skin contact caused decreased body weight, redness of
skin, liver effects. Single exposure by inhalation to high doses caused inactivity or
anesthesia; altered kidney function, cardiac sensitization, a potentially fatal disturbance
of hearth rhythm associated with a heightened sensitivity to the action of epinephrine.
Repeated exposure caused reduced weight gain, altered hematology and clinical
chemistry. Long-term exposure caused reduced weight gain. Single exposure by
ingestion to high doses caused decreased body weight, liver effects.

I n a two year inhalation study, 1,1-Dichloro-1-fluoroethane, at concentrations of
5,000 ppm, or 15-20,000 ppm, produced an increased incidence of benign testicular
tumors in rats. T he no effect level for this study was 1,500 ppm. Animal data
developmental effects only at exposure levels producing other toxic effects in the adult
animal. Reproductive data on rats show interference with reproduction only at levels
which produce other toxic effects in the adult animal. T ests in bacterial and mammalian
cell cultures are generally negative. I t has not produced genetic damage in tests on
animals. T his material has not been tested for its ability to cause permanent genetic
damage in reproductive cells of mammals (not tested for heritable genetic damage).

Poly-T FE, omega-hydro-alpha-(methylcyclohexyl)-is untested for skin and eye
irritancy, and is untested for skin sensitization in animals. T he effects in animals from
acute, subchronic, or chronic exposure by inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact have not
been determined. No animal test reports are available to define carcinogenic,
mutagenic, developmental, or reproductive hazards.

CAR CI NOGENI CI T Y: None of the components in this material is listed by I ARC NT P,
,
OSHA, or AC I H as a carcinogen.

S AFET Y PR ECAUT I ONS : Avoid breathing vapors or mist. Avoid contact with eyes,
skin or clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. Fluorotelomer should not be handled
around tobacco products. I nhalation of vapors in the presence of tobacco products
causes polymer fume fever.

minutes.

catecholamine drugs, such as epinephrine should be considered only as a last resort in
life-threatening emergencies.

GENER AL L Y APPL I CAB L E CONT R OL MEAS UR ES : Do not consume food, drink or
tobacco in areas where they may become contaminated with this material. Use with
sufficient ventilation to keep employee exposure below the recommended exposure
limit, especially for enclosed and low places. Where ventilation is inadequate use local
exhaust system designed for flammable gas atmospheres to remove vapors.
