exposure limits for ammonia are ACGIH TLV 25 ppm and OSHA PEL 50 ppm. No general recommended exposure
limit is available for amines. A NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with ammonia/methylamine cartridges should be
used to protect against ammonia or amine inhalation exposure.

Engineering Controls: Local exhaust ventilation as necessary to maintain exposures to within applicable limits.

Personal Protection Equipment

Eye/Face Protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.

Skin Protection: Wear appropriate clothing to prevent repeated or prolonged skin contact. Wear
chemical resistant gloves such as nitrile or neoprene.

Respiratory Protection: If exposed to particulates/aerosols:
Use at least a NIOSH-approved N95 half-mask disposable particulate respirator.
In work environments containing oil mist/aerosol use at least a NIOSH-approved
P95 half-mask disposable or reuseable particulate respirator.
If exposed to organic vapors:
Use a NIOSH/MSHA-approved organic vapor respirator. CCROV: CCR with
organic vapor cartridge.

Refer to Exposure Limits table (Section 8) for component specific respiratory

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Component Toxicological Data

Ingredient CAS NO: Acute Data
Diethanolamine 111-42-2 LD50 0.45 - 1.85 ml/kg (rat); LD50 Dermal: 5.05 -
13.6 ml/kg (24H occluded)
Glycol ether Oral LD50 5.4 g/kg (rat); Dermal LD50 5.1 g/kg
(rabbit); Inhalation LC50 >400 ppm/7H (rat)

Ingredient Component Toxicological Summary
Diethanolamine There are reports that ingestion of diethanolamine (DEA) produced nervous system
injury in dogs and rats. Heart and salivary gland lesions have also been observed in
mice treated with DEA cutaneously and in drinking water. Rats given high doses of DEA
developed anemia and testicular lesions. An increased incidence of some skeletal
variations suggestive of a slight developmental delay was seen only in the fetuses of rats
given 1500 mg/kg/day cutaneously which also caused significant maternal toxicity.
However, no fetal malformations were observed in either rats or rabbits similarly treated.
Preliminary findings from the National Toxicology
Program (NTP) suggest an increased incidence of liver tumors in both sexes of mice
and an increased incidence of kidney tumors in male mice dermally exposed for their
lifetime to DEA. The significance of these findings and their relevance to humans are not
clear as DEA was not genotoxic (neither mutagenic (causing changes in genes) nor
clastogenic (causing breakage of chromosomes)), and did not induce tumors in rats or in
transgenic mice similarly treated. Additional research which is designed to provide a
better understanding of the significance of these observations to humans, if any, is
underway. (Vendor MSDS)
