3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
HEALTH HAZARDS
Corrosive-Causes irreversible eye damage. Causes skin burns. Harmful
POSSIBLE HAZARDS
if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Harmful if inhaled. May
(SUMMARY)
cause skin sensitization. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing.
AVOID BREATHING VAPORS. Do not swallow. Wear goggles,
protective clothing, and rubber gloves. Wash thoroughly with soap and
water after handling. Remove and launder contaminated clothing before
reuse.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Move to fresh air. Obtain medical attention. If breathing is difficult,
INHALATION
oxygen may be administered by qualified personnel.
Call a physician or Poison Control Centre immediately. Never give
INGESTION
anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Only induce vomiting at
the direction of a physician.
5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
> 200 掳F (> 93 掳C) PMCC
FLASH POINT
Use alcohol-type or all-purpose-type foam, applied by manufacturer's
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
recommended techniques for large fires. Use carbon dioxide or dry
chemical media for small fires.
Non-flammable (aqueous solution): After water evaporates, remaining
SPECIAL HAZARDS
material will burn.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Wear suitable protective equipment. Toxic to fish; avoid discharge to
CLEAN UP METHODS
natural waters. Very low concentrations (5 ppm or less glutaraldehyde)
can be degraded in a biological treatment system. Thus, small spills can
be flushed with large quantities of water. Large quantities or 'slugs' can
be harmful to the treatment system. Thus, large spills should be
collected for disposal. It may also be possible to decontaminate spilled
material by careful application of aqueous sodium hydroxide or sodium
bisulfite. Depending on conditions, considerable heat and fumes can be
liberated by the decontamination reaction.
