******************************************************************************
Emergency Overview:
Black solid. When heated causes burns on contact. Do not attempt removal,
apply cold water and get immediate medical attention.
******************************************************************************
Potential Hlth Effect/Rte of Entry:
-----------------------------------
Inhalation:
Mist or vapor can irritate respiratory tract. prolonged exposure to
airborne concentrations significantly beyond workplace exposure limits can
cause respiratory difficulty, convulsions, and possible cardiovascular
collapse.
Eyes:
Vapor and liquid can irritate eyes. Repeated or prolonged exposure may
cause eye damage. Hot material can burn eye tissue, possibly resulting in
loss of eyesight.
Ingestion:
May cause gastrointestinal irritation or distress if swallowed.
Skin:
Liquid can cause skin irritation and dermatitis, including acne. Coal tar
pitch is a phototoxic substance which in the presence of ultraviolet light
(sunlight), can cause a skin reaction similar to an exaggerated sunburn,
frequently causing blisters. Hot material can cause severe heat burns.

Aggravated Medical Conditions:
Pre-existing eye, skin and respiratory disorders may be aggravated by
exposure.

Acute Health Effects:
See effects described above.

Chronic Health Effects:
Long-term overexposure to coal tar pitch can affect skin pigmentation. It
can cause growths on the skin or skin cancer. It may cause cancer of the
lungs, kidneys, or bladder. Coal tar pitch has been determined to be a
human and animal carcinogen.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Upper Flammability Limit: NOT AVAILABLE
Autoignition Temperature: 750F

Extinguishing Media:
Carbon dioxide, dry chemical. Water may cause violent reaction.
Fire and Explosion Hazards:
May ignite if heated in excess of flash point. Hot product may ignite
flammable or combustible materials on contact. Hydrogen sulfide may be
released when heated.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures:
During a fire, personnel at the scene are to prevent exposure to fumes
using accepted fire fighting techniques.

Oxides of nitrogen, carbon, and possibly sulfur.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Release Response Overview:
Allow material to cool. Transfer to appropriate container for disposal.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 7 - Handling and Storage
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Handling and Storage Precautions:
Store under normal warehouse conditions. Caution must be used to prevent
contact with hot material. Prevent inhalation of vapor. To prevent gases,
vapors or fumes from migrating into occupied sections of the building,
close or cover all openings including windows, doors and air intakes during
and after application until gases, vapors or fumes dissipate. Personal
protective equipment must be worn during maintenance or repair of
contaminated mixer, reactor, or other equipment.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 8 - Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Respiratory:
Wear appropriate, properly fitted NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator, as
directed by the manufacturer, when the airborne contaminant level(s) exceed
the exposure limits indicated in Section 2 of the MSDS.
Skin:
Protect hands with heat resistant gloves. Use slip resistant shoes
impervious to hot bitumens.
Eyes:
Chemical splash goggles.
Face:
Face shield is recommended.
Engineering:
Use local exhaust when the general ventilation is not sufficient to keep
the airborne contaminant concentration below the exposure limit in Section
