SECTION 6 - TOXICOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
ROUTE OF ENTRY
INGESTION
INHALATION
SKIN CONTACT SKIN ABSORPTION EYE CONTACT
EFFECTS OF ACUTE EXPOSURE TO PRODUCT
Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation.
Skin: May cause skin irritation.
Eyes: May cause eye irritation.
Inhalation: May cause respiratory tract irritation.
Ingestion: May cause aspiration pneumonitis, vomiting, decreased gastrointestinal transit time, gastrointestinal
obstruction, constipation, a charcoal-containing empyema, intestinal perforation, charcoal deposits in the esophageal and
gastric mucosa, rectal ulcer.
EFFECTS OF CHRONIC EXPOSURE TO PRODUCT
The substance is toxic to mucous membranes.
The substance may be toxic to lungs.
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.
Skin: Chronic skin exposure can result in clogging of hair follicles, rendering them black.
Inhalation: Chronic inhalation can cause carbon particles to accumulate in the lungs. It may cause a pneumoconiosis
called "Black Lung Disease" or "Coal Workers Pneumoconiosis". This is seen in coal workers, but no evidence has been
found for the equivalent with occupational exposure to activated carbon (charcoal).
EXPOSURE LIMITS
TWA: 5 (mg/m3) from OSHA (PEL) [United States] Inhalation Respirable.
TWA: 3.5 (mg/m3) from ACGIH (TLV) [United States] Inhalation Respirable.
TWA: 4 (mg/m3) [United Kingdom (UK)] Inhalation Respirable.
TWA: 10 (mg/m3) [United Kingdom (UK)] Inhalation Total.
TWA: 2 (mg/m3) [Canada] Inhalation Respirable.
TWA: 15 (mg/m3) from OSHA (PEL) [United States] Inhalation Total.
Consult local authorities for acceptable exposure limits.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS (SPECIFY eg. VENTILATION, ENCLOSED PROCESS)
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to keep airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If user
operations generate dust, fume or mist, use ventilation to keep exposure to airborne contaminants below the exposure limit.
LEAK AND SPILL PROCEDURE
Use appropriate tools to put the spilled solid in a convenient waste disposal container.
Stop leak if without risk. Absorb with an inert material and put the spilled material in an appropriate waste disposal. Obtain advice on use of water as spilled
material may react with it. Do not touch spilled material. Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas; dike if needed. Eliminate all ignition sources.
Cover with wet earth, sand or other non-combustible material. Call for assistance on disposal. Be careful that the product is not present at a concentration
above TLV. Check TLV on the MSDS and with local authorities.

WASTE DISPOSAL
According to local, provincial, and federal regulations.
HANDLING PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT
eep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition. Ground all equipment containing material. Do not breathe dust. Keep away from incompatibles such
as oxidizing agents, metals, acids.
STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
Store in a segregated and approved area. Keep in a cool and ventilated area away from combustible materials. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area.
Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Avoid all possible sources of ignition (spark or flame).

SPECIAL SHIPPING INFORMATION
DOT CLASS 4.2: Spontaneously combustible substance.

oxygen. Get medical attention.
INGESTION Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by
mouth to an unconscious person. Loosen tight clothing such as collar, tie, belt or waistband. If
large quantities of this material are swallowed, call a physician immediately. Get medical attention
if symptoms appear.
IF IRRITATION PERSISTS AND IN ALL OTHER CASES, GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
SECTION 9 - PREPARATION DATE OF M.S.D.S.
