permanganate, etc.
Hazardous Decomposition
Products: Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide
Hazardous
Polymerization: Product will not undergo hazardous polymerization

V Toxicity Data

Ingestion Exposure: The acute oral LD50(rat) is > 10g/Kg
Inhalation Exposure: The acute inhalation LC50(50) (rat) is > 64.4 mg/g
(nominal concentration) for Activated Carbon

VI Hazard Data

Acute
Eye: The physical nature of the product may produce eye
irritation
Inhalation: This material is a dust or may produce dust
Ingestion: The product is non-toxic through ingestion
Chronic Irritation: The effects of long-level exposure to this product have
not been determined. Safe handling of this material on a
long-term basis should emphasize the avoidance of all
effects from repetitive acute exposure

VII Recommended First Aid Measures

Eye Exposure: Flush eye with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes
Skin Exposure: First aid is not normally required. However, it is
recommended that exposed areas be cleaned by washing
with soap and water.
Inhalation Exposure: If symptoms develop, move individual away from exposure
and into fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek medical
attention. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen.
Keep person warm and quiet; seek immediate medical
attention
Notes to Physician: Preexisting disorders of the following organs (or organ
systems) may be aggravated by exposure to this material:
lung (for example, asthma-like conditions)
Signs & Symptoms of
Exposure: Irritation to the nose, throat and airways

VIII Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point: None
Autoignition Temperature: 450OC
Unusual Fire &
Explosion Hazard: Carbon monoxide may be generated in the event of a fire.
Powders burn with smoldering fire, but are not easily
ignited. Provide for the handling of dry flowing solids in
grounded equipment to prevent build-up of static electric
charge especially when explosive dust or vapor mixtures
may exist in confined areas. Also provide for pressure
relief devices following the principles set forth in the
National Fire Protection Association Explosion Preventing
Guide NFPS68-1854
Ignition Point: Activated Carbons that have absorbed other carbon or non-
carbon liquids or gases may lower or raise the ignition
point and must be laboratory checked for ignition point
when axpended
Extinguishing Media: Use media for class A fires: Foam, multipurpose dry
chemical and water type extinguishers. Water fog

VIII Fire Fighting Measures-Continued

Special Firefighting
Procedures: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus with a full
facepiece operated in the positive pressure demand mode
with appropriate turn-out gear and chemical resistant
personal protective equipment

IX Accidental Release Measures

Containment of Spills: Small Spills: Collect material with a vacuum cleaner
Large Spills: Collect material with a vacuum cleaner
Waste Disposal: Deposit in a landfill in accordance with local, state and
federal regulations

X Handling & Storage

Handling: Wet Activated Carbon removes oxygen from air causing
severe hazards to workers inside Carbon vessels and
enclosed or contained spaces. Before entering such an
area, sampling and work procedures for low oxygen levels
should be taken to ensure ample oxygen availability,
observing all local, state and federal regulations.
Containers of this material may be hazardous when
emptied. Since emptied containers retain product residues
(vapor, liquid, and/or solid), all hazard precautions given in
the data sheet must be observed. Wash thoroughly after
handling

XI Exposure Controls/ Personal Protection

Appropriate
Hygienic Practices: As part of good industrial, personal hygiene and safety
procedure, avoid all unnecessary exposure to the product
and ensure prompt removal from eyes, skin and clothing.
Maintain good housekeeping to control dust accumulations.

XI Exposure Controls/ Personal Protection-Continued

Personal Protection Equipment
Eye Protection: Wear safety goggles or glasses. As may be required by
OSHA safety and health standards 29 CFR 1910.133
Skin Protection: Wear rubber gloves. Wear normal work clothing
covering arms and legs. Wash thoroughly after handling
Respiratory Protection: If needed, use a NIOSH/MSHA jointly approved dust
respirator
Ventilation Protection:
Engineering Controls: Provide sufficient mechanical (general and/or local
exhaust) ventilation to maintain exposure below TLV (s)

XII Transportation Requirements
