3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
This material is sensitive to air, heat and light. Animal tests indicate that it is
not irritating to the skin or eyes.
It is classified as being harmful by ingestion and inhalation on the basis of the
production of triphenylphosphine oxide upon decomposition.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Over-exposure to this material may produce the following symptoms -
First Aid
Inhalation : irritation of the respiratory system with coughing. Ingestion :
abdominal pain and vomiting. 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽

remove from exposure and allow to rest in fresh air, if symptoms persist seek
First Aid - Inhalation
medical attention. 聽
First Aid - Ingestion rinse mouth with clean water and give clean water or milk to drink. Seek
medical advice. 聽
rinse with clean water or isotonic saline solution for 5 minutes, seek medical

advice if symptoms persist. 聽
First Aid - Skin wash skin with soap and water.


5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Although the material is not flammable, toxic fumes will be produced if
involved in a fire. The residue, ash or char left after a fire may have catalytic
properties and may promote the re-ignition of flammable materials and
vapours. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protective
equipment. Use any extinguisher suitable for the surrounding fire. 聽 聽

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Collect up spillage and store, under an inert atmosphere, in a suitable
container.

Good industrial hygiene practices should be observed. Chemical resistant
Handling (JM)
gloves and eye protection should be worn. Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply
cosmetics whilst using this material. This material should only be handled by
authorised personnel who are fully aware of its properties. It is supplied
packed under Argon and should, preferably, only be handled in an inert
atmosphere or under vacuum. 聽 聽
Store under kerosine, in a cool, dry area away from incompatible materials
Storage (JM)
such as liquid hydrocarbons and oxidising agents. Protect from water and
physical damage.

reactive hazards are known to Johnson Matthey.

This material is classified as being harmful by ingestion and inhalation on the
basis of the toxicity of a decomposition product - triphenylphosphine oxide (
LD50 oral mouse - 1380mg/kg).
Animal tests indicate that the material is not irritating to the eyes or skin.

This material is not thought to present a severe ecological hazard, however,
in the absence of definative data it should be regarded as a potential hazard.
Do not allow this material to enter natural watercourses. 聽
