V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of lanthanum nitride have not been
thoroughly investigated and recorded.

Lanthanum is considered a rare earth metal. These metals are moderately to highly toxic. The symptoms of toxicity of the
rare earth elements include writhing , ataxia, labored re spiration, walking on the toe s with arched back and sedation. T he rare earth
elem ents ex hibit low toxicity b y ing estion exposure. How ever, the intraperitone al rou te is high ly tox ic wh ile the su bcu taneo us route
is poiso n to m ode rately toxic. The produc tion o f skin and lung gran ulom as after exposure to them requ ires extensive pro tection to
prevent such exposure.

Am monia gas is a human poison by an unspecified route. Poison by inhalation, ingestion, and possibly other routes. An eye,
mu cous m embrane, and system ic irritant by inhalation . Mu tation data rep orted. (Sax , Dang erous P roperties of In dustrial M aterials,
eighth edition.)

Acute E ffects:

Inhalation: May cause irritation to the upper respiratory system. Amm onia gas may cause irritation to the nose and throat, dyspnea,
bronchial spasms, chest pain, pulmonary edema and pink frothy sputum.
Ingestion: May cause irritation by ingestion. A mm onia ga s may cause nausea, vo miting a nd burns.
Skin : May cause irritation. Am mo nia gas m ay cau se nause a, vom iting and b urns.
Eye: May cause m oderate irritation. Ammo nia gas m ay cau se severe irritation an d chem ical burns.

Chro nic Effects:

Inhalation: May cause writhing, ataxia, labored respiration, walking on toes with arched back, sedation, pulmonary edema and lung
granuloma. Repeated or prolonged exposure to ammonia gas may cause swelling of mouth and throat to the point of asphyxiation,
permanent injury and death.
Ingestion: Ma y act as a blood anticoagu lant.
Skin : Repeated or prolonged exposure to ammonia gas may cause tissue damage.
Eye: Repeated or pro longed exp osure to amm onia ga s may cause irreversible dam age to the conjun ctiva, corne a and len s.

Carcino genicity: NTP: No IARC: No OSHA: No

Target Organs: May affect the respiratory system , blood, skin and e yes.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing lun g and skin disord ers.

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air, keep warm and quiet, give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.
SK IN: Remove contaminated clothing, brush material off skin, wash affected area with mild soap and water, seek medical attention.
EYE: Flush eyes with lukewarm water, lifting upper and lower eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

VI REACTIVITY DATA

Haz ardous D ecomposition Produc ts: Am mo nia and hydrogen gas.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled: We ar appropriate respira tory and protective equip me nt. Isolate spill
area and provide ventilation. Vacuum up spill using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA ) air filter and place in a closed
con tainer for proper disp osal. T ake care n ot to raise dust.

Waste Disposal Method: Disposal m ust be m ade in accordance w ith Federal, State and L ocal regu lations.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection (Specify Type): Use a NIOS H/M SHA approved dust respirator.
Ventilation: Use local exhaust to maintain concentration at or below the PEL, TLV. Mechanical exhaust is recommended.

Protective Gloves: Rubber gloves

-Lanthanum Nitride 2-
Eye Protection: Safety glasses or goggles

Other Protective Clothing or Equipment: Protective gear suitable to prevent contamination.

IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store in a co ol, dry place in tightly closed co ntainers. Avoid breathing dusts.
Avoid direct or prolonged contact with skin and eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Do not rub eyes with soiled hands. Do
not eat, drink or smoke in the work area.

Wo rk Practices: Imp lem ent en gineering and wo rk practice controls to re duc e and ma intain c onc entration o f exp osure at low levels.
Use good housekeeping and sanitation practices. Do not use tobacco or food in the work area. Wash thoroughly before eating or
smok ing. Do not blow dust off clothing or skin with comp ressed air.
