V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effects of Exposure:
To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of nickel antimonide have not been
thoroughly investigated and recorded.
Nickel is a confirmed carcinogen with experimental carcinogenic, neoplastigenic, tumorigenic and teratogenic data. Poison
by in gestion, intratracheal, intraperito neal, subcutaneou s and intraveno us routes. A n experim ental teratog en. Ingestion of solub le
salts causes nau sea, vom iting and d iarrhea. Hypersensitivity to nickel is com mo n and can cau se allergic con tact derm atitis,
pulmonary asthma, conjunctivitis and inflamm atory reactions around nickel containing medical implants and prosthesis (Sax,
Dang erous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition).
Aluminum compounds have many commercial uses and are commonly found in industry. Many of these materials are active
chemic ally an d thu s exh ibit dan gero us tox ic and reactiv e pro perties. Inha lation o f fine alum inum oxid e particles is associated with
Shaver鈥檚 disease. (Sax, Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition)
Acute E ffects:
Inhalation: May cause irritation to the u pper respiratory tract, nasa l cavities, pulm onary asthm a and p ulmonary fibrosis.
Ingestion: Larg e doses m ay ca use intestinal d isorders, convu lsions and asphyxia.
Skin : May cause irritation.
Eye: May cause irritation.
Chro nic Effects:
Inhalation: May cause pneom itis.
Ingestion: May cause nickel toxicity.
Skin : May sensitize the skin (nickel itch). May cause allergic dermatitis, eczematous dermatitis and may be accom panied a week
later with superficial skin ulcers, which may discharge and become crusted.
Eye: May cause co njunctivitis.
Target Organs: May affect the nasal cavities, lungs and skin.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing respira tory disorders, p ulm ona ry functions, asthma and skin
disorders.
Routes of Entry: Inhalation, ing estion, skin, eye s.

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air; keep warm and quiet. Give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: Give 1-2 glasses of milk or water and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention. Never induce vomiting or give
anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
SK IN: Remove contaminated clothing. Brush material off skin and wash affected area with mild soap and water. Seek medical
attentio n if sym ptom s persist.
EYE: Flush eyes with lukewarm water, lifting upper and lower eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if symptoms
persist.
