EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION: If respiratory irritation or distress occurs remove victim to fresh air. Seek medical attention if respiratory irritation
or distress con tinues.
INGESTION: If victim is conscious and alert, give 1-2 glasses of water to drink. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious
person. Seek medical attention. Do not leave victim unattended.
SK IN: In case of co ntact, wash with plen ty of soap and w ater. Seek m edical attention if irritation develops or persists.
EYE: Rinse particulate matter from ey e. Seek med ical attention if irritation develops or persists or if visual changes occur.

in an appropriate closed container. Vacuuming should be prohibited. Use non-sparking tools. Clean up residual material by washing
area with water.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: NIOSH approved dust, mist, and fume respirator.
Ventilation: Glove bag or box with a dry inert atmosphere.

Other Protective Equipment: Lab coat and apron, flame and chemical resistant coveralls, eyewash capable of sustained flushing,
safety drench shower and hygienic facilities for washing.

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store in tightly closed containers. Store in an area that is dry. Avoid breathing
dusts or vapors. Avoid direct or prolonged contact with skin and eyes. Use non-sparking tools and grounded/bonded equipment and

Wo rk Practices: Do not sto re, use, and/or co nsume foods, be verages, tobacco products, or cosm etics in areas w here this m aterial is
stored. Wash hands and face carefully before eating, drinking, using tobacco, applying cosmetics, or using the toilet. Wash exposed
skin p rom ptly to rem ove accid entally splash es of contact with this m aterial. M aintain a sink, safety show er and eyewash fo untain in
the work area. Have oxygen readily available.
Other: May react violently with halogens. Releases hydrogen gas in contact with water. Fire hazard in the form of dust, when
exposed to flame or by chemical reaction with oxidizers. Samarium metal is air and moisture sensitive, handle and store under argon
or other in ert gas.
