IV FIRE AND EXPLOSION H AZARDS DATA

Flash Point (Method Used): N/A Autoignition Temperature: N/A
Flam mab le Limits: Upper: N/A Lower: N/A Flam mab ility: Non-flam ma ble

Extingu ishing Media: No fire hazard. Use extinguishing agents suitable for the surrounding fire.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Use a self-contained breathing apparatus to prevent inhalation of dust, mist and/or fumes that
may be g enerated during fire fighting activities.

Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard: None

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Route(s) of Entry: Material can be inha led, swallow ed or co me in contact with the skin or eyes.
Effects of Over Expo sure:

Acute overexposure to cadmium compounds may result in lung injury with persistent cough, dyspnea and pulmonary edema
(chemical pneumonia). However, these acute effects have occurred primarily following exposure to cadmium oxide fume. Dust of
insolu ble co mp oun ds, suc h as this ma terial, are considered to b e less tox ic than cadm ium fum e. Chronic exp osure m ay lead to
pulmonary emp hysema and/or kidney damage. The renal dysfunction is characterized by the urinary excretion of low molecular
weight proteins. Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Carcinogenic assessment (NTP annu al report, IARC m onographs, Other): Cadmium sulfide has been identified as being
carcinogenic in laboratory animals by the NTP and IARC. This conclusion was based on the production of local sarcomas following
subcutaneous and intramuscular injection.
EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
INHALATION: Remove from exposure. Seek medical attention.
INGESTION: If substantial quantities are swallowed, give person (if conscious) a large quantity of water to drink, induce vomiting
and seek medical attention.
SK IN: Thoroughly wash affected area with mild soap and a large volume of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
EYE: If irritation occurs, flush with copious amounts of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

VI REACTIVITY DATA

Stability: Stable
Co nditio ns to Av oid: N/A
Incompatibility (Material to Avoid): Contact with acids generates h ydro gen su lfide gas.
Haz ardous D ecomposition Produc ts: Oxide of sulfur, zinc oxide and cadmium oxide.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Ventilate area o f spill. Clean-up using m ethods which avoid d ust
generation such as vacuuming (with appropriate filter to prevent airborne dust levels which exceed the PEL or TLV), wet dust mop or
wet clean-up. If airborne dust is generated, use an appropriate NIO SH app roved respirator.

Waste Disposal Method: Dispose o f in accord ance w ith Loca l, State and Federal regu lations.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection (Specify Type): Use a appropriate NIOSH approved respirator if airborne dust concentrations exceed the
TL V or PEL. A ll appropriate req uirem ents set forth in 29 C FR 191 0.13 4 sho uld b e m et.
Ventilation: Use local exhaust ventilation which is adequate to limit personal exposure to levels which do not exceed the TLV or
PEL. If su ch eq uipm ent is not available, use respirato rs as specified above.

Protective Gloves: Gloves are recommended when contact is likely. Eye Protection: Safety glasses or goggles are
recommended.

IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Maintain goo d housekeeping procedures to p revent accum ulation of d ust. Use
clean-up methods which minimize dust generation such as vacuuming or wet clean-up. If airborne dust is generated, use an
appropriate NIO SH app roved respirator.

Other Precautions: Wash thoroughly after handling and before eating or smoking and at the end of the work shift. Do not shake
clothing o r othe r items to rem ove dust. U se a vacuum . Avoid d ust inh alation and direct skin contact. Do not ingest. Period ic
me dical exam ination s are recom me nde d for indiv iduals regu larly ex posed to dust.

The abo ve inform ation is believ ed to be co rrect, but do es no t purp ort to b e all inclu sive an d sha ll be used only as a gu ide.
ESPI shall not be held liab le for any d am age resulting from c ontact or fro m h and ling the abo ve product.
