3. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Boiling Point: 311掳F, IBP Vapor Pressure: 20 mm.Hg, 20掳C
Percent Volatile: 99 Vapor Density: (Air=1) 5
Density: 0.9, 20掳C Evaporation Rate: (Water=1) <1
Water Solubility: Insoluble Appearance: Reddish liquid suspension
pH: n/a Odor: Mild odor

4. FIRE HAZARDS
Flash Point: 177掳F PM ASTM D 93
Flammable limits in air: LEL 1.3%, UEL 8.8% by volume
Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, foam or CO2. Water may be ineffective, but water should be used to keep fire-exposed
containers cool. If a leak or spill has ignited, use water spray to disperse the vapors and to protect those
attempting to stop a leak. Water spray may be used to flush spills away from exposures.
Special Firefighting Procedures: Minimize breathing gases, vapor, fumes or decomposition products. Use air-supplied breathing
equipment for enclosed or confined spaces or as otherwise needed.

5. HEALTH HAZARDS
Threshold Limit Value (TLV): Recommended exposure limit is 300 ppm for 8 hour work day.
ROUTE OF ENTRY, EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE, EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID
Inhalation: High vapor concentrations are irritating to the respiratory tract, may cause headaches and dizziness, are anesthetic
and may have other central nervous system effects. If overcome by vapor, remove from exposure and call physician
immediately. If breathing is irregular or has stopped, start resuscitation; administer oxygen, if available.
Skin Contact: Prolonged or repeated skin contact tends to remove skin oils possibly leading to irritation and dermatitis. In case of
contact, wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Remove any contaminated clothing and wash before reuse.

HEALTH HAZARDS CONT...
Eye Contact: Contact may cause irritation. If splashed into the eyes, flush with clear water for 15 minutes or until irritation
subsides. If irritation persists, call a physician.
Ingestion: Product has a low order of acute oral toxicity, but minute amounts aspirated into the lunges during ingestion may
cause severe pulmonary injury or death. If ingested, do no induce vomiting, Call a physician immediately.
Variability among Individuals: Health studies have shown that many halogenated hydrocarbons pose potential human health risks
which may vary from person to person. As a precaution, exposure to liquids, vapors, mists or
fumes should be minimized.
Effects of Overexposure: None reported
Carcinogenicity: 1,1,1-Trichloroethane has been subjected to a carcinogenesis bioassay by NCI and found not to be carcinogenic.
Medical Conditions Known to be Aggravated by Exposure to Product: None reported

6. REACTIVITY HAZARDS
Stability: Stable
Incompatibility: Strong oxidizing agents, strong caustics
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Under fire conditions, hydrogen chloride, small amounts of phosgene and chlorine,
aldehydes and other decomposition products in the case of incomplete combustion.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE PROCEDURES
Ventilation: Provide greater than 60 feet per minute hood face velocity. Use only with ventilation sufficient to prevent exceeding
recommended exposure limit or buildup of explosive concentrations of vapor in air. Use explosion-proof equipment.
No smoking or open lights.
Respiratory Protection: Use supplied-air respiratory protection in confined or enclosed spaces, if needed.
Protective Gloves: Use chemical-resistant gloves other than natural rubber, if needed to avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact.
Eye Protection: Use splash goggles or face shield when contact may occur.
Other Protective Equipment: Use chemical-resistant apron or other impervious clothing, if needed, to avoid contaminating
regular clothing which could result in prolonged or repeated skin contact.
Storage: Do not handle or store near heat, sparks, flame or strong oxidants.
Shelf Life: 2 years
Aerosol: Store in a cool dry place at temperatures below 120掳F. Do not puncture or incinerate aerosol cans.

8. DISPOSAL PROCEDURES
Spills and Leaks: Remove all ignition sources. Recover free liquid. Add absorbent such as sand, sawdust, etc. to spill area.
Ventilate confined spaces. Keep material out of sewers and water sources.
Waste Disposal: Assure conformity with applicable disposal regulations. Dispose of absorbed material at an approved disposal
site or facility.
