3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Emergency Overview: Store below 120掳F, out of sunlight and away from heat sources. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Vapor
harmful. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents may be harmful or fatal.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS
Eye: Liquid or vapors may cause redness, burning, tearing, swelling and or pain
Skin: Frequent or prolonged contact can result in defatting and drying of the skin, which may result in
skin irritation and dermatitis
Ingestion: Should ingestion occur, it may cause irritation to membranes of the mouth, throat, and
gastrointestinal tract resulting in vomiting and or cramps
Inhalation: Prolonged or repeated overexposure is anesthetic. May cause irritation of the respiratory tract, or
acute nervous system depression characterized by headache, dizziness, staggering gait or
confusion.
Medical Conditions Aggravated: Skin contact may aggravate and existing dermatitis. Other conditions unknown.
Primary Hazards: Neuropathy (Hexane)
Carcinogen Data: None of the ingredients in this product are listed with OSHA, IRAC, or NTP as being
carcinogenic.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Ingestion: Should ingestion occur, do not induce vomiting. Drink a glass of water or milk to dilute. Contact a physician.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person
Skin: Remove with soap and water. Consult a physician if irritation continues
Eye: Immediately flush with plenty of clear water for at least 15 minutes. Make sure to flush under the eyelids.
Consult a physician for definitive treatment.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek
medical attention if symptoms persist or if unconscious.
5. FIRE FIGHTING HAZARD
Flash Point: <20掳F
Flammable Limits: Lower (LEL): 1.1% Upper (UEL): 7.5%
Extinguishing Media: For warehouse and storage conditions, use NFPA Class B extinguisher ( CO2, dry chemical,
or universal aqueous film foaming foam.)
Special Firefighting Procedures: Use water spray to cool fire exposed aerosol containers, for contents can rupture violently
from heat developed pressure. Firemen should wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazards: Contents extremely flammable. In addition, when liquid or vapor comes into contact with
flames or red hot metal, products of combustion may be created.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Containment Procedures: Create a dike or trench to contain materials
Spill Clean-up: Spilled material may be absorbed using sand, clay or commercial absorbent. Do not place material
back in their original container. Containerize and label all spill material properly. Dispose of per
guidelines under Section 13.
Reporting Requirements: The reporting requirements of the EPA and other local, state, and or federal agencies should be
observed. For more information, consult with your local Emergency Planning Commission or fire
department
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Storage Conditions: Do not store at temperatures above 49掳C/120掳F. Keep containers closed when not in use.
Handling: Keep liquid and vapor away from heat, sparks and flame. Surfaces that are sufficiently hot may
ignite even liquid product in the absence of sparks or flame. Extinguish pilot lights, cigarettes and
漏 2004 Goodson Shop Supplies
turn off other sources of ignition prior to use and until all vapors are gone. Vapors may accumulate and travel to ignition sources
distant from handling sight. Use with adequate ventilation.
Special Precautions: Static electricity may accumulate and create a fire hazard. Ground fixed equipment. Bond and ground
transfer containers and equipment. Storage and handling conditions should conform to NFPA 30,
30A and/or 395; as applicable.
Empty Containers Warning: Empty containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut,
weld braze, solder, drill, grind or expose such containers to heat, flame, sparks ,static electricity, or
other sources of ignition; they may explode and cause injury or death. Do not attempt to clean since
residue is difficult to remove. Empty drums should be completely drained, properly bunged and
promptly returned to a drum conditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an
environmentally safe manner and in accordance with all applicable government regulations.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Controls: General ventilation (typically 10 air changes per hour) should be used. Ventilation rates should be matched
to conditions. Local exhaust ventilation or an enclosed handling system may be necessary to control air
contamination below that of the lowest TLV/PEL rated ingredient from Section 2
Exposure Guideline: Since this product is a mixture, an OSHA or ACGIH exposure valve is not available. In determination of any
exposure procedures, protection, or testing, use the lowest rated ingredient from Section 2.
Skin Protection: For brief contact, no precautions other than clean body-covering clothing should be needed. When prolonged
or repeated contact could occur, use protective clothing impervious to the ingredients listed in Section 2.
Eye Protection: Safety glasses with side shield are recommended as a minimum for any type of industrial chemical handling.
Where eye contact with this material could occur. chemical splash proof goggles are recommended.
Respiratory Protection: Atmospheric levels should be maintained below the exposure guideline. When respiratory protection is
required, an appropriate NIOSH approved respirator for organic vapor should be worn. If respirators are
needed, compliance with OSHA standard 20 CFR 1910.134 is necessary.
