6. Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken In Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Immediately notify safety and
environmental personnel. For a large spill in a clean area, dike and recover for reuse. Dispose of
contaminated material. For a small spill, mix with absorbent material and dispose. Never neutralize
spill with acid. Never neutralize spill with acid. Do not divert to an acid-containing sewer.

7. Handling and Storage

Precautions to be Taken In Handling and Storage: Avoid all contact with skin and eyes. Do not allow
potential leaks to be discharged into an acid-containing sewer. Depending on specific handling and
storage methods, dissolved total reduced sulfur compounds including hydrogen sulfide may be
released and into a vapor space in potentially hazardous amounts.

8. Exposure Control Measures, Personal Protection

Personal Protective Equipment:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 鈥? A NIOSH-approved respirator for dust/mist/organic vapors/acid gases
is recommended if exposure levels warrant. If firefighting you should use an SCBA in pressure
demand mode.
EYE PROTECTION 鈥? Chemical goggles are recommended.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES 鈥? Rubber gloves are recommended.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT 鈥? Apron, boots, face shield, or rubber suit may be
needed when handling large amounts.
WORK/HYGIENE PRACTICES 鈥? Eyewash stations and safety showers should be readily accessible if a
splash hazard exists.
Ventilation:
LOCAL EXHAUST 鈥? Provide local exhaust as needed.
MECHANICAL (GENERAL) 鈥? Provide general ventilation in processing and storage areas.
SPECIAL 鈥? Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) recommended when fighting fire.
OTHER 鈥? Emergency eye wash fountain and quick drench shower if a splash hazard exists.
