** Weyerhaeuser recommends an exposure limit of 2 mg/m3 TWA for additive vapors if product is heated
above 100掳C (212掳F).
NOTE: The terms fumes and mist are sometimes used interchangeably with vapor, but 鈥渧apor鈥? is most
technically correct to describe the potential hazard if the product is heated above 100掳C (212掳F).

3. Hazard Identification

Appearance and Odor: This product is an odorless white rolled or baled pulp sheet.
Primary Health Hazards: The primary health hazards posed by this product are thought to be due to
exposure to dust with product in purchased form, and exposure to dust and/or vapors if the product is
heated above 100掳C (212掳F).
Primary Route(s) of Exposure:
Ingestion:
Skin:
鈱? Inhalation: Dust, Vapors
鈱? Eye: Dust
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Cellulose dust may aggravate pre-existing
respiratory conditions or allergies.
Chronic Health Hazards: Paper (cellulose) dust is a biologically inert dust that has little or no effect on
the lungs and does not produce significant organic disease or toxic effect when allowable exposure
limits are met. The specialty additive is not expected, under normal conditions of use, to cause long-
term health effects. Some of the specialty additive may vaporize when the material is heated. This
has little or no effect on the lungs and does not produce significant organic disease or toxic effect
when allowable exposure limits are met.

3. Hazard Identification (cont鈥檇.)

Carcinogenicity Listing:
NTP: Not listed
IARC Monographs: Not listed
OSHA Regulated: Not listed

4. Emergency and First-Aid Procedures

Ingestion: Not applicable for product in purchased form.
Eye Contact: Dust may mechanically irritate the eyes, resulting in redness or watering. Treat dust in
eye as foreign object. Flush with water to remove dust particles. Get medical help if irritation
persists.
Skin Contact: Not applicable for product in purchased form.
Skin Absorption: Not applicable for product in purchased form.
Inhalation: Excessive dust concentrations may cause unpleasant obstruction in the nasal passages.
Inhalation of vapors may cause coughing and difficult breathing. Care must be taken to limit
exposure to the specialty additive that may be released in a heated process. Remove to fresh air.
Get medical help if persistent irritation, severe coughing, or breathing difficulty continues.
Note to Physician: None

5. Fire and Explosion Data

Flash Point (Method Used): NAP
See below under 鈥淯nusual Fire NAP
Flammable Limits: LFL = UFL =
and Explosion Hazards鈥?
Extinguishing Media: Water
Autoignition Temperature: 450掳F (232掳C)
Special Firefighting Procedures: Firefighters should wear proper protective equipment and NIOSH-
approved, self-contained breathing apparatus with full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Depending on moisture content, particle diameter, and rate of
heating, cellulose dust may explode in the presence of an ignition source. An airborne concentration
of 30,000 mg/m3 is often used as the LEL for cellulose pulp.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken In Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Not applicable for product in purchased
form. Sweep or vacuum for recovery or disposal.
Other Precautions: A NIOSH-approved respirator is recommended if dust conditions exist.

7. Handling and Storage

Precautions to be Taken In Handling and Storage: No special handling precautions are required.
Keep in cool, dry place away from open flame. No special handling precautions are required. Keep in
cool, dry place away from open flame and other sources of ignition.
Other Precautions: Heating the product above 100掳C (212掳F) will result in the release of vapors.
Minimize compressed air blowdown or other practices that generate high dust levels.

8. Exposure Control Measures, Personal Protection

Personal Protective Equipment:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 鈥? Not applicable for product in purchased form. A NIOSH-approved dust
respirator is recommended when allowable exposure limits may be exceeded. A combination organic
vapor/dust filter cartridge is recommended for processes involving heating the material.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES 鈥? Not required. However, cloth, canvas, or leather gloves are recommended to
minimize potential mechanical irritation from handling product.
EYE PROTECTION 鈥? Not applicable for product in purchased form. However, goggles or safety glasses
are recommended if the product is used in such a way as to generate high dust levels.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT 鈥? Not applicable for product in purchased form.
Outer garments may be desirable in extremely dusty areas.
WORK/HYGIENE PRACTICES 鈥? Not applicable for product in purchased form.
Ventilation:
LOCAL EXHAUST 鈥? Provide local exhaust as needed so that exposure limits are met.
MECHANICAL (GENERAL) 鈥? Provide general ventilation in processing and storage areas so that
exposure limits are met.
SPECIAL 鈥? Adequate ventilation must be provided if product is heated above 100掳C (212掳F).
OTHER 鈥? None
