Note to Physician: If medical assistance is necessary, have copies of this MSDS available.

5. Fire and Explosion Data

Flash Point (Method Used): Not Applicable
LFL = NAP UFL = NAP
Flammable Limits:
Extinguishing Media: Foam, dry chemical, and carbon dioxide.
Autoignition Temperature: NAP
Special Firefighting Procedures: Self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing should be
worn in chemical fires. Water may be ineffective, serving only to spread product, but may be used to
cool containers.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: The wet ink is not flammable. The bulk of the ink will not burn.
If heated to dryness, the remaining organic polymers and pigments, although difficult to ignite, will
burn as a class III B fire. It is recommended that containers be tightly closed and isolated from heat,
electrical equipment, and flame. A closed container could possibly explode when exposed to
extreme heat.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken In Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Dike and contain spill with absorbent
material such as clay or commercially available material. Place material in a container for disposal.
Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves to minimize exposure.

7. Handling and Storage

Precautions to be Taken In Handling and Storage: Follow standard industrial practices when handling
this product or empty containers. Avoid getting product on skin, eyes, or clothing. If contact with the
product occurs, remove effected clothing and wash with soap and water. Store in a cool, dry,

well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials. Avoid excessive hot or cold temperatures.
Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

8. Exposure Control Measures, Personal Protection

Personal Protective Equipment:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 鈥? Under normal conditions of use, respiratory protection is not required.
If a fog or mist is produced, use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with organic vapor absorbing
cartridges. The respirator program must comply with OSHA and ANSI standards.
EYE PROTECTION 鈥? Chemical safety glasses recommended.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES 鈥? Chemically resistant rubber gloves are recommended.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT 鈥? Eye wash station.
WORK/HYGIENE PRACTICES 鈥? Wash hands before eating, drinking, smoking, and at the end of the
shift.
Ventilation:
LOCAL EXHAUST 鈥? Provide local exhaust as needed so that exposure limits are met.
MECHANICAL (GENERAL) 鈥? Provide general ventilation in processing and storage areas so that
exposure limits are met.
SPECIAL 鈥? None
OTHER 鈥? None

11. Toxicological Information

Toxicity Data: None available for product in purchased form. Individual component information is listed
below if available. Note, the corrosive components, ammonium hydroxide and monoethanolamine,
are present in neutralized form and do not pose a corrosive hazard.
Components: Monoethanolamine (neat solution) 鈥? Oral LD50 Rat = 2100 mg/kg, moderately toxic.
Monoethanolamine (neat solution) 鈥? Dermal LD50 > 1500 mg/kg Rabbit slightly toxic.
Ammonium hydroxide (44% solution) LD50 Rat oral 350 mg/kg.
Target Organs: NAV

12. Ecological Information

Environmental Fate: The wet ink is water soluble and highly colored. Small amounts of inks are easily
observed in water. However, except for the obvious coloration, there is little change in the water
quality. Dry ink exposed to water will slowly leach color with the same result as above. Dry ink is
considered safe to landfill. Because the acrylic resins and pigments are very chemically stable and
non-toxic, they do not degrade into harmful products.
Environmental Toxicity: Product contains ammonium hydroxide (ammonia) and monoethanolamine
(ethanolamine). Both are listed as medium aquatic toxicity by US-EPA document 744-R-02-002, April
2002, 鈥淎n Evaluation of Flexographic Inks on Wide-Web Film鈥?. Monoethanolamine - LC50-96 hr
aquatic toxicity rating is > 100.00 鈥? 1000.00 ppm practically non-toxic. Ammonium hydroxide has an
aquatic toxicity rating of TLm96 10-100 ppm. Ammonium Hydroxide is regulated under Clean Water
Act.

13. Disposal Considerations

Waste Disposal Method: Blue and green inks often use copper containing organic pigments. Many
facilities, especially sewer districts, limit the quantity of copper present in the wastewater. In
addition, these pigments contain chemically bound cyanide anion. While this material is recognized
as safe within the matrix of the pigment, standard wastewater testing protocol will break the molecule
and liberate free cyanide. Cyanide is regulated in wastewater and pre-treatment may be required.
Check with your local sewer authority before disposing to sewer. This material is not a RCRA
hazardous waste. This product may be determined to be a 鈥渟pecial鈥? waste. Dispose of material in
accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

14. Transport Information

A fire hazard No
A reactivity hazard No
A sudden release hazard No
FDA: All our ink products comply with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations
21, Section 175. These regulations state that adhesives, inks, and related materials may be safely used
for packaging foods, when they are separated by a functional barrier, which prevents migration of material
into the food (Indirect Food Contact). That is, the inside paper liner and medium separates the printing on
the outside of the food container.
WHMIS Classification: Ammonium hydroxide and monoethanolamine are components present in this
product that are listed on the WHMIS Hazardous Ingredients Disclosure list (=/> 1%). Product in
purchased form does not meet the criteria of WHMIS Classification. The MSDS contains all other
