conscious/alert. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do by medical personnel. Seek medical
attention if symptoms develop.
Eye Contact: Flush with water to remove. Seek medical attention if irritation or discomfort persists.
Skin Contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with mild soap and water. Seek
medical attention if irritation or discomfort persists.
Skin Absorption: Not expected to occur. Wash with soap and water.

5. Fire and Explosion Data

Flash Point (Method Used): NAP
LFL = NAP UFL = NAP
Flammable Limits:
Extinguishing Media: Foam, dry chemical, and carbon dioxide.
Autoignition Temperature: NAP
Special Firefighting Procedures: Self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing should be
worn in chemical fires. Water may be ineffective, serving only to spread product, but may be used to
cool containers.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: The wet ink is not flammable. The bulk of the ink will not burn.
If heated to dryness, the remaining organic polymers and pigments, although difficult to ignite, will
burn as a class III B fire. It is recommended that containers be tightly closed and isolated from heat,
electrical equipment, and flame. A closed container could possibly explode when exposed to
extreme heat.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken In Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Dike and contain spill with absorbent
material such as clay or commercially available material. Place material in a container for disposal.
Wear safety glasses and chemical resistant gloves, such as rubber, to minimize exposure.

7. Handling and Storage

Precautions to be Taken In Handling and Storage: Follow standard industrial practices when handling
this product or empty containers. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. If contact with the
product occurs, remove effected clothing and wash with soap and water. Store in a cool, dry, well
ventilated area away from incompatible materials. Avoid excessive hot or cold temperatures. Keep
containers tightly closed when not in use.

8. Exposure Control Measures, Personal Protection

Personal Protective Equipment:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 鈥? Under normal conditions of use, respiratory protection is not required.
If a fog or mist is produced, use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with organic vapor absorbing
cartridges. The respirator program must comply with OSHA and ANSI standards.
EYE PROTECTION 鈥? Chemical safety glasses recommended.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES 鈥? Chemically resistant gloves are recommended.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT 鈥? Eye wash station
WORK/HYGIENE PRACTICES 鈥? Wash hands before eating, drinking, smoking, and at the end product
use or work shift.
Ventilation:
LOCAL EXHAUST 鈥? Provide local exhaust as needed so that occupational exposure limits are not
exceeded.
MECHANICAL (GENERAL) 鈥? Provide general ventilation in processing and storage areas so that
occupational exposure limits are not exceeded.
SPECIAL 鈥? None
OTHER 鈥? None

11. Toxicological Information

Toxicity Data: None available for product in purchased form. Individual component information is listed
below.
Components:
Ammonium hydroxide 鈥? As neat ammonia solution is considered a moderately toxic substance based on
LD50 of 350 mg/kg by oral route - rat. There is insufficient data in the literature to accurately
characterize the acute toxicity of barium salts. The lethal dose for most salts is 1 to 15 g. The lethal
dose of ingested barium, 0.8 to 0.9 g (or approximately 11 mg/kg), has also been reported. Adults
have recovered after ingesting as much as 30 grams of barium carbonate.
Target Organs: NAV

12. Ecological Information

Environmental Fate: The wet ink is water soluble and highly colored. Small amounts of inks are easily
observed in water. However, except for the obvious coloration, there is little change in the water
quality. Dry ink exposed to water will slowly leach color with the same result as above. Dry ink is
typically considered acceptable landfill waste. Acrylic resins and pigments are chemically stable and
considered environmentally non-toxic and do not degrade into harmful products.
Environmental Toxicity: While the product in purchased form is considered to exhibit low environmental
toxicity, the product does contain ammonium hydroxide (ammonia) and barium lithol red, which are
listed as medium aquatic toxicity by US-EPA document 744-R-02-002, April 2002, 鈥淎n Evaluation of
Flexographic Inks on Wide-Web Film. Ammonium hydroxide and barium compounds are regulated
under Clean Water Act.

13. Disposal Considerations

Waste Disposal Method: Check with your local sewer authority before disposing to sewer. Although
the EPA lists barium as a toxic heavy metal, these inks are not a RCRA hazardous waste, based on
repeated testing of raw pigment, the wet ink and the dry ink film utilizing EPA鈥檚 test protocol.

Weyerhaeuser MSDS WC 330-01
Page 4 of 7 Rev. 02/23/2006
13. Disposal Considerations (cont鈥檇.)

These tests have shown the free barium level below 100 ppm (the regulatory level). A waste
containing barium may or may not be characterized as a hazardous waste following testing by the
Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure as prescribed by the Resource Conservation and
Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations.
In addition, these pigments contain chemically bound cyanide anion. While this material is recognized as
safe within the matrix of the pigment, standard wastewater testing protocol will break the molecule
and liberate free cyanide.
Cyanide is regulated in wastewater and pretreatment may be required. Due to liquid form, this product
may be determined a 鈥渟pecial鈥? waste. Dispose of product in accordance with local, state, and federal
regulations.

14. Transport Information

U.S. Department of Transportation.
