Appearance and Odor: Pale yellow liquid with methanol odor.
Primary Health Hazards: Eye and respiratory irritant. May be harmful or fatal if swallowed.
Primary Route(s) of Exposure:
Ingestion: While not a likely source of exposure, the product may be harmful or fatal if swallowed.
Signs and symptoms include behavioral disorders, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, visual
disturbances, thirst, convulsions, cyanosis, and rapid heart rate. Signs and symptoms are central
nervous system stimulation followed by depression, cardiopulmonary effects, and later potentially
fatal kidney damage. Ingestion can result in intoxication (CNS depressant) resembling that due to
alcohol with ataxia, drowsiness, and slurred speech, possibly stupor, coma, convulsions, and death.
Skin: Mild skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact may result in slight skin irritation.
Inhalation: Irritant. Avoid prolonged inhalation of mist or vapors. This product has a low vapor
pressure and is not expected to present an inhalation hazard at ambient conditions. A hazard due to
inhalation may exist in circumstances where ethylene glycol is handled hot or where agitation or other
mechanical operations may create an excessive fog or heavy mist. Caution should be taken to
prevent aerosolization or misting of this product.
Eye: Eye irritation. This product has a low vapor pressure and is not expected to present a
hazard to the eyes at ambient conditions. Exposure to mists and vapors may be severely irritating to
the eyes.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Liver
disorders (jaundice or liver enlargement) Kidney disorders (edema or proteinuria).
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure:
Acute Health Hazards: Eye and respiratory irritant.
Chronic Health Hazards: Kidney 鈥? renal failure and CNS depressant.
Carcinogenicity Listing:
NTP: Not Listed
IARC Monographs: Not Listed
OSHA Regulated: Not Listed

4. Emergency and First-Aid Procedures

Ingestion: If swallowed, give two glasses of water (pint/0.5 liter) if victim completely conscious/alert. Do
not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Seek medical attention if
symptoms develop. Provide copy of this MSDS to medical personnel.
Eye Contact: Flush with water to remove. Seek medical attention if irritation or discomfort persists.
Skin Contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with mild soap and water. Seek
medical assistance if irritation or discomfort persists. Provide copy of this MSDS to medical
personnel.
Skin Absorption: Not expected to occur. Wash with soap and water.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Seek medical assistance if persistent irritation, severe coughing, or
breathing difficulty occurs. Provide copy of this MSDS to medical personnel.
Note to Physician: This material, if aspirated into the lungs, may cause chemical pneumonitis.
Treatment of over-exposure should be directed at the control of symptoms and the clinical condition
of the patient.

cool containers.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: This product is not combustible. It is recommended that
containers be tightly closed and isolated from heat, electrical equipment, and flame. A closed
container could possibly explode when exposed to extreme heat.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Steps to be Taken In Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Dike and contain spill with absorbent
material such as clay or other commercially available material. Place in container for disposal. Wear
safety glasses and chemical resistant gloves to minimize exposure.

7. Handling and Storage

Precautions to be Taken In Handling and Storage: Follow standard industrial practices when handling
this product or empty containers. Avoid getting product on skin, eyes, or clothing. If contact with the
product occurs, remove effected clothing and wash with soap and water. Store in a cool, dry, well
ventilated area away from incompatible materials. Avoid excessive hot or cold temperatures. Keep
containers tightly closed when not in use.

8. Exposure Control Measures, Personal Protection

Personal Protective Equipment:
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 鈥? Under normal conditions of use, respiratory protection is not required.
If a fog or mist is produced, use NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator with organic vapor absorbing
cartridges. The respirator program must comply with OSHA and ANSI standards.
EYE PROTECTION 鈥? Chemical safety glasses recommended.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES 鈥? Chemically resistant gloves are recommended.
OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING OR EQUIPMENT 鈥? Eye wash station.
WORK/HYGIENE PRACTICES 鈥? Wash hands before eating, drinking, smoking and at the end of the
shift.Ventilation:
LOCAL EXHAUST 鈥? If handling results in mist or aerosols local exhaust ventilation may be needed so
that exposure limits are met.
MECHANICAL (GENERAL) 鈥? Provide general ventilation in processing and storage areas so that
exposure limits are met.
SPECIAL 鈥? None
OTHER 鈥? None

11. Toxicological Information

Toxicity Data: None available for product in purchased form. Individual component information is listed
below if available.
Components: Ethylene Glycol LD 50 oral-rat: 8567 mg/kg, slightly toxic. LD 50 skin-rabbit: 9530
mg/kg. LD oral-human 710 mg/kg
2,4,7,9-Tetramethyl-5-Decyne-4 7-Diol Practically non-toxic. LD 50 oral rate: > 500 mg/kg. LD 50 skin-
rabbit: > 1000 mg/kg.
Target Organs: Kidneys and liver

12. Ecological Information

Environmental Fate: This product is not expected to be readily biodegradable. Environmental fate by
product ingredients: Ethylene Glycol: If released to soil, ethylene glycol is expected to have very
high mobility. Ethylene glycol is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces based upon its vapor
pressure. Ethylene glycol is biodegraded in soil 97-100% in 2-12 days. If released into water,
ethylene glycol is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment.

Weyerhaeuser MSDS WC 365-01
Page 4 of 7 Rev. 10/09/2006
12. Ecological Information (cont鈥檇.)

If released to air, a vapor pressure of 0.092 mm Hg at 25掳C indicates ethylene glycol will exist solely as a
vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase ethylene glycol will be degraded in the atmosphere
by reaction with photo chemically-produced hydroxyl radicals; the half-life for this reaction in air is
estimated to be two days.
2,4,7,9-Tetramethyl-5-Decyne-4,7-Diol: Degrades very slowly in the environment (soil and water). Photo
degradation half-life is estimated at 3 hours assuming the reaction occurred over a 12 hour day with
average atmospheric concentration of 1.5 x106 OH/ci.
Environmental Toxicity: None available for product in purchased form. Individual component
information is listed below.
Ethylene glycol: LC50 96-hour values for fish are over 100 mg/I.
2,4,7,9-Tetramethyl-5-Decyne-4,7-Diol: Fathead minnows 24- and 96-hr. 36 mg/L; Carp 96-hr. NOEL of
10ring/L. Daphnia magna 24 hr. EC 50 88 mg/L with a 48 hr. NOEC of 43 mg/L. Fresh water green
algae cell growth inhibition EC5O 15 mg/L and growth rate reduction EC50 82 mg/L. Harmful to fish,
aquatic vertebrates, and algae.
