3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
This Platinum ammine complex is thought to be of low acute toxicity, and by
analogy with the corresponding Palladium compound is thought to be non-
irritating to the skin but a positive eye irritant. It is not thought to be a sensitizer.
As a dry solid this material is explosive and is readily ignitable, sensitive to
friction and deflagrates in a similar manner to gun powder.
DO NOT allow this material to dry out.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Over-exposure may produce the following acute symptoms -
First Aid
Ingestion - Nausea and vomiting.
Inhalation - Irritation of the respiratory tract.
Eye contact - Redness and irritation.
Remove from exposure and allow to rest in fresh air. Seek medical advice if
First Aid - Inhalation
symptoms persist.
Rinse mouth with clean water and give milk or water to drink. Seek medical

advice.
Irrigate with clean water or isotonic saline for 10 minutes. Seek medical attention
First Aid - Eyes
if symptoms persist.
Skin : Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and water.
First Aid - Skin
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
This material is not flammable. If involved in a fire it may decompose producing
toxic fumes. Alternatively, if the material has dried without decomposition, it may
explode in a manner similar to gun powder.
Fire fighters should wear self contained breathing apparatus and personel
protective equipment. Use any extinguishing medium suitable for the
surrounding fire. Containers of this material exposed to heat should be cooled by
water spray.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
The liquid portion of this material should be absorbed in a suitable absorbant
medium. The solid portion should be collected up and stored, covered with
water, in a suitable sealed container.
Wash the site of spillage with large amounts of water, ensuring that no solid
remains and that none is allowed to dry out.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Local exhaust extraction should be used and protective clothing, including gloves
Handling (JM)
and eye protection should be worn. Do not eat, drink, smoke or apply cosmetics
whilst handling.
Store in an air-tight container in a cool, dry place.
Storage (JM)
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
The following exposure controls have been established for Platinum compounds
-
UK HSE MEL - Halogeno-platinum compounds,(as Pt) - 0.002 mg/m鈥?
UK HSE OES - Platinum compounds, soluble (as Pt) - 0.002 mg/m鈥?
USA ACGIH TLV - Platinum, soluble salts (as Pt) - 0.002 mg/m鈥?
Germany MAK - Platinum compounds (total dust) - 0.002 mg/m鈥?
Denmark ELV - Platinum compounds, soluble (as Pt) - 0.002 mg/m鈥?
If a risk of inhalation exists, users should wear an appropriate filter type
respirator. Suitable gloves and eye protection should also be worn.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
Explosivity tests have shown that the DRY compound is readily ignitable,
sensitive to friction and deflagrates in a manner similar to gunpowder. Its' impact
sensitivity is greater than that for dinitrobenzene. The suspension as supplied is
not explosive.
