3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
The salt is corrosive to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It will readily
produce a purple stain on the skin and it will damage the epidermis, with a
consequent risk of dermatitis or eczema.
When heated, the product will decompose. Toxic fumes are given off and
metallic gold is left behind.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Over-exposure may produce the following symptoms -
First Aid
Inhalation - irritating to the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory tract, producing
coughing.
Ingestion - nausea and vomiting.
Eye contact - redness, irritation, blurred vision and pain.
Skin - redness and irritation with possible tissue damage. 聽 聽

Wearing gloves and eye protection, sweep up the spillage and store in
sealed, plastic containers, ready for disposal. Wash the area with water. 聽 聽
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Good industrial hygiene practices should be observed. Use only under

No Occupational Exposure Limit, MAK or TLV has been established for this
material. If a risk of inhalation exists, users should wear an appropriate filter
type respirator. Alternatively, local exhaust extraction should be used.
Suitable eye protection and chemical resistant gloves should be worn. Vapour
and fumes from all operations should be vented to external atmosphere via a
suitable collection or scrubbing system. Wash hands after using this material.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
Solutions of gold and ammonia or ammonium salts should not be stored,
since explosive gold fulminate may be formed. This is a heat-, friction- and
impact-sensitive explosive when dry.
Contact with water or moisture will hydrolyse the salt, liberating hydrochloric
acid.

Due to its chemical stability, gold does not pose an environmental health
hazard. Gold compounds are poorly absorbed by animals, plants, birds or
fish. Chlorauric acid may have a local effect because of the acidic pH of its
solution.
