5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Although the material is not flammable, toxic fumes will be produced if
involved in a fire. The residue, ash or char left after a fire may have catalytic
properties and may promote the re-ignition of flammable materials and
vapours. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protective
equipment. Use any extinguisher suitable for the surrounding fire. 聽 聽
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Wearing chemical resistant gloves and eye protection, spread lime (calcium
hydroxide) or sodium carbonate liberally over the spillage to neutralise the
acid and mop up cautiously with plenty of water. Wash the area thoroughly
with water afterwards. 聽

Keep separate from incompatible materials and flammable or combustible
materials.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
No specific exposure control standards have been established for the
Palladium compound. The following standards have been established for
Sulfuric Acid.
UK HSE OES - 1 mg/m鈥?
USA ACGIH TLV - 1 mg/m鈥?
Germany MAK - 1 mg/m鈥?
France VME - 1 mg/m鈥?
Local exhaust extraction should be used. If a risk of inhalation exists, users
should wear appropriate respiratory protection. Chemical resistant gloves and
suitable eye protection should also be worn. 聽

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION (continued)
There have been no reports of adverse environmental effects due to
Palladium.
The following data is available for the Sulphuric acid component.
LC50 shrimp 80-90mg/lt/48hrs (aerated water), LC50 flounder 100-330mg/lt/
48hrs (aerated water), LC50 prawn 42.5ppm/48hrs (salt water).
The toxicity of Sulphuric acid to aquatic life is a function of the resulting pH. A
pH of 4.0 produced pronounced gill irritation and a pH of 3.5 caused death of
sunfish, bass and carp. 聽 聽
13. DISPOSAL
The slurry obtained following neutralisation with lime or soda ash can be dried
on a filter and disposed of to land-fill, in accordance with local and national
regulations.
