    3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
Contact with the solution will result in irritation of the skin and eyes and the
vapour will be irritating to the respiratory tract.
As an oxidising material, it will increase the flammability of any combustible
substance. Wood and clothing impregnated with the nitrate present a high
risk of self-ignition. In contact with readily oxidisable substances, it may react
to cause ignition, violent combustion or explosion.
Tetramminepalladium(II)nitrate solid may explode violently when exposed to
heat or flame or by spontaneous chemical reaction when detonated.
Evaporation of this solution is, therefore, hazardous.

There is no evidence that soluble palladium salts give rise to an allergy
problem, similar to that observed with soluble platinum salts. 聽

    5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Although the compound is not flammable, it will assist a fire, producing irritant
and toxic fumes of oxides of nitrogen. Wear self contained breathing
apparatus and personal protective equipment. Use any extinguishing media
suitable for the surrounding fire. 聽

No Occupational Exposure Limit, MAK or TLV has been established for this
material. If a risk of inhalation exists, users should wear an appropriate filter
type respirator. Alternatively, local exhaust extraction should be used.
Suitable eye protection and chemical resistant gloves should be worn. Vapour
and fumes from all operations should be vented to external atmosphere via a

    10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
Mixtures of metal nitrates with alkyl esters may explode as a result of the
formation of alkyl nitrates. Mixtures with phosphorus, tin(II)chloride or other
reducing agents may react explosively. Nitrates will convert ethanol to
fulminic acid. When mixed with phosphinates, metal nitrates explode on
heating. Explosions may occur when nitrates melt and come into contact with
                                         organic matter. 聽
