PHYSICAL DATA

Density 1.67; Melting point 159°C; Water solubility 83 g/100 ml at                        20°C   (with   slow

decomposition); pH (0.2 M solution) 3.2; soluble in alcohol. Hygroscopic.



APPEARANCE & ODOR

White to slightly yellow crystals. Odor of Hydrochloric acid.



REACTIVITY & CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Stable. No hazardous self reaction. Reducing agent-incompatible                   with   oxidizers.    Slowly

decomposes when moist. May explode when heated above 140°C.



FIRE HAZARDS

May cause fire or deflagration with oxidizers. Will decompose in general fire with evolution

of noxious fumes. Firefighters wear SCBA. NFPA # 3-1-1.

HEALTH HAZARDS

Corrosive and irritating to skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Harmful if swallowed or inhaled.

Causes blood disorders - methemoglobinemia, symptoms - cyanosis, nausea, vomiting, headache,

ringing in the ears, oxygen deficiency, collapse, convulsions. LD 50 (oral-rat) 141 mg/kg.

Chronic external contact may lead to dermatitis. OSHA PEL/ACGIH TLV not established. Teratogenic

and mutagenic evidence. No evidence of carcinogenicity.



SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Wear goggles and rubber gloves while handling. Use good ventilation or suitable respirator if

dust is raised. Store in well sealed container away from oxidizers and protected from moisture.



FIRST AID

Wash skin and eyes thoroughly with water after contact. For eyes or if irritation develops, get

medical attention. If swallowed, give water or milk to drink and get medical attention. If

inhaled remove to fresh air. Get medical attention if discomfort develops.



SPILLS & LEAKS

Contain spill. Sweep with absorbent. Disposal to incinerator. Wash area with water. Disposal

of small amounts to sanitary drain may be allowed in some areas, check local regulations.
