APPEARANCE & ODOR
Clear liquid. Odorless. Solids may form which will redissolve upon heating to about 40掳C.
REACTIVITY & CONDITIONS TO AVOID
Stable. Alkaline reaction. Incompatible with acids, oxidizers. No hazardous self-reactivity.
FIRE HAZARDS
Not flammable or combustible. Will evaporate in general fire conditions. Avoid inhalation of
vapors. Firefighters wear SCBA. NFPA # 2-0-1.
HEALTH HAZARDS
Corrosive, caustic to skin, eyes and tissue. Causes chemical burns. LD Lo (scu-mouse) 19 mg/kg.
Danger orally is in the caustic nature of the product. LD/TD no further data. No evidence of
carcinogenicity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Use rubber gloves and goggles or face shield while handling. Safety shower in area.
FIRST AID
Wash skin or eyes thoroughly with water. Get medical attention for eyes. If swallowed, give
water or milk to drink, ice to suck and get medical assistance. DO NOT induce vomiting.
SPILLS & LEAKS
Spills can be neutralized with a weak acid diluted with water. Mop up and dispose to sanitary
sewer. Alternately the spill may be taken into an absorbent and incinerated. Do not dispose
to surface waters.
