HEALTH HAZARDS
Irritating to eyes in high concentrations. LD 50 (oral-rat) 2660 mg/kg. Adult human fatal dose
orally or inhaled 5-30 g. Symptoms of exposure: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, coma,
death. Affects central nervous system, liver and kidneys. Not absorbed through intact skin or
eyes. Commonly used in low concentrations as eye wash. OSHA PEL/ACGIH TLV not established. No
evidence of carcinogenicity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Use goggles while handling. Use local ventilation to prevent inhalation of dust. Keep container
well sealed and store in a dry place.
FIRST AID
Wash skin or eyes thoroughly with water. If swallowed, give water with milk of magnesia or milk
and get medical attention. Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed by a physician.
SPILLS & LEAKS
Sweep, minimizing dust formation. Wash up with water. Disposal to landfill or for small spills
to sanitary drain. Check local regulations.
