White, deliquescent crystals and powder. Odorless.
REACTIVITY & CONDITIONS TO AVOID
Stable. Undergoes no spontaneous self-reaction. Strongly oxidizing when heated. Incompatible-
combustibles and strong acids.
FIRE HAZARDS
May cause fire or explosion with combustible material. Avoid inhalation of smoke. Firefighters
wear SCBA. NFPA # 2-0-3.

HEALTH HAZARDS
May be irritating to skin, eyes and nasal passages. Not absorbed through intact skin. Effects
of ingestion-CNS disturbances, nausea, anorexia, apathy, kidney damage, eventually coma. Large
doses may cause dizziness and collapse. OSHA PEL/ACGIH TLV not established. Perchlorates have
been shown to interfere with iodine uptake by the thyroid in test animals. Studies on workers
in plants where perchlorate salts are manufactured have shown no thyroid abnormalities. Thyroid
effects on humans continues to be studied. No evidence of carcinogenicity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Wear goggles and rubber gloves while handling. Avoid contact with organic matter including
wood, cardboard and paper. Keep water supply available. Store in well sealed container away from
flammable and combustible materials.
FIRST AID
Wash skin and eyes thoroughly with water after contact. If eye irritation persists, get medical
attention. If swallowed, give milk or water and get medical attention. Do NOT induce vomiting
unless directed by a physician.
SPILLS & LEAKS
Sweep solids. Wash up thoroughly with water. Disposal to sanitary drain. Check local
regulations. Do not take up with organic absorbant. Do not put into incinerator.
