HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Health Effects
Acute - Swallowed Harmful if swallowed due to presence of hydrocarbon solvents.
Ingestion can cause nausea, vomiting, coughing and pulmonary irritation. If
a large amount (> 1ml/kg of hydrocarbon solvent) is ingested and retained,
symptoms of Central Nervous System depression and irritation can occur and
include weakness dizziness, unconciousness and convulsions.
Acute - Eye May be an eye irritant.
Acute - Skin Contact with skin may result in irritation.
Acute - Inhaled Harmful by inhalation. High vapour concentrations may cause irritation of the respiratory
system
and Central Nervous System depression characterised by dizziness and
headache.
Prolonged exposure to vapours may cause sleepiness and unconciousness.
First Aid
Swallowed If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting. Give patient a glass of water to drink
and seek medical advice. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious
person.
Eye Flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Skin Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash affected area thoroughly
with soap and water. If irritation occurs seek medical attention.
Launder clothing before reuse.
Inhaled Remove patient to fresh air and seek medical advice.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Exposure Limits No exposure standard is available for the material as such. Exposure
standards for the hazardous components are as follows (NOHSC-1995):
Toluene: TWA: 100ppm (377mg/m3), STEL: 150ppm (565mg/m3)
TWA is the time weighted average concentration of the work atmosphere over a
normal 8-hour work day and a 40-hour work week. Nearly all workers may be
repeatedly exposed to this level, day after day, without adverse effect.
These TWAs are issued as guidelines for good practice. All atmospheric
contamination should be kept to as low a level as is practically possible.
These TWAs should not be used as fine lines between safe and dangerous
concentrations.
Eng. Controls Use in a well ventilated area only. Ventilation should be sufficient to
ensure exposure is as low as practically possible or, at least below the
recommended exposure standards. If mechanical ventilation is used it must
be appropriate for use with highly flammable materials.
Take precautions against static electricity discharges.
Personal Protection
Protective Equip. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and avoid breathing vapours.
The following personal protective equipment is recommended:
Air supplied respirator or organic vapour cartridge mask (complying with
Australian Standards AS1715 & AS1716) if ventilation is inadequate or if
working in a confined area.
Safety goggles.
Protective PVC rubber gloves.
Flammability
Fire Hazards Highly Flammable
SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
Storage and Transport
Storage and Keep away from sources of ignition- No smoking.
Transport Store under cool, dry conditions away from oxidising agents.
Keep containers in a well ventilated place.
Classified as a Class 3 (Highly Flammable) material according to the,
'Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail',
therefore should be stored and transported according to the relevant
regulations in each state.

Spills and Disposal
Spills & Disposal Do not empty into drains.
Shut off all possible sources of ignition. Clean-up personnel to wear
appropriate personal protective equipment. Prevent spreading of flammable
vapours. Prevent run-off into drains and water-ways. Contain spill using
inert absorbent such as sand, earth, vermiculite or similiar. Collect used
absorbent in clearly labelled containers for disposal as per statutory
regulations. Wash down area where spill occurred.
Fire/Explosion Hazard
Fire/Explos. Flammable vapours may travel considerable distances to a source of ignition
Hazard (heat, sparks, flames).
Keep containers sealed when not in use.
Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
Hazardous decomposition products on burning include: oxides of carbon,
hydrogen chloride, smoke and other toxic fumes.
Fire-fighting personnel to wear self-contained breathing apparatus and
protective clothing.
Extinguishing media: Foam, dry chemical, carbon dioxide.
Hazardous Incompatible with strong oxidising agents and sources of ignition.
