SECTION 4 - TOXICOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
NATURE OF HAZARD
INHALATION: Mist inhalation may irritate nose, throat, and lungs. May cause nose bleeds.
EYE CONTACT: May irritate or burn eyes. Possible transient corneal damage.
SKIN CONTACT: May cause skin irritation. Under conditions of prolonged contact or when moisture is present,
superficial burns may result. Contact with abraded or broken skin can cause severe Necrosis.
INGESTION: Low in toxicity, but more toxic than sodium chloride. May irritate gastrointestinal tract and cause
nausea and vomiting.
CHRONIC: Not applicable

SECTION 5 - FIRST AID MEASURES
INHALATION: Promptly remove to fresh air. Restore and/or support breathing. Consult a physician for
observation and treatment.
EYE CONTACT: Flush eyes promptly with plenty of running water, continuing at least 15 minutes with eyelids
held open. Get medical attention promptly.
SKIN CONTACT: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with plenty of running water. Get medical attention if
irritation persists.
INGESTION: If conscious, immediately give 2 to 4 glasses of water, and induce vomiting by touching finger to
back of throat. Get immediate medical attention.
Note: Certain individuals can experience an extreme sensitivity to this product. These individuals may experience
rashes on arms, hands etc. that are transient in nature. This product may act as a skin sensitizer for
these sensitive individuals.
SECTION 6 - PREVENTIVE MEASURES
PERSONAL PROTECTION: Workers using this product on a regular basis should wear hard hats with face
shields, full length neoprene or PVC waterproof gloves, steel toed rubber boots and a waterproof rubber apron.
Full coveralls should also be worn to minimize the possibility of skin contact. Good personal hygiene practices
should be observed when handling this product. Make special note that CPD Cold Weather Mortar Accelerator
will ruin leather work boots, gloves etc. Do not wear leather when handling this product. The particular use of this
product does not represent a problem from inhalation of mist. However, if there is a possibility of mist being
inhaled workmen should wear NIOSH approved mist respirators.
ENGINEERING CONTROLS: None required for this product. However, portable eyewash facilities should be
available at the worksite.
HANDLING, STORAGE AND SHIPPING: Keep product in original containers closed tightly when not in use.
Do not store in unlined metal containers. Handle containers carefully as this product is heavy. Do not use empty
containers for food storage of any type.
SPILL CONTROL AND DISPOSAL: For small spills flush with water. For large spills contain, soak up or
pump up product and dispose of in accordance with all Provincial and Federal Government legislation. Do not
flush large quantities into storm sewers, water courses or sanitary sewers. This product is harmful to aquatic life at
concentrations greater than 500 ppm. This product does not bio-accumulate. TLm96>1000 mg./Litre.
SECTION 7 - FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA
Flash Point and Method: Not flammable (TCC).
Auto ignition temperature: Not applicable.
Flammability Limits: Not applicable.
GENERAL HAZARDS: Not flammable. Water based salt solution. However, product will explode when mixed
with Furan 2 - Peroxy - Carboxylic Acid. Can react with zinc to yield hydrogen gas which may explode under
confined conditions.
FIRE FIGHTING: This product is not flammable however at extremely high temperatures (above 160掳C) fumes
of chlorides are given off. However, fire fighters should wear NIOSH - approved self-contained breathing
apparatus.

SECTION 8 - REACTIVITY DATA
GENERAL: This product is stable and hazardous decomposition will not occur under normal conditions.
INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS AND CONDITIONS TO AVOID:
Calcium Chloride liquid reacts violently with Bromine Trifluoride (BRF3) or a mixture of Boron Trioxide and
Calcium Oxide. Methyl vinyl ether will start a runaway polymerization reaction. Certain metals will react with the
aqueous solution of calcium chloride to generate flammable hydrogen gas.
