HEALTH EFFECTS
Acute
Swallowed: Practically non-harmful. May result in nausea and vomiting.
Poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract
Eye: Moderate irritant
Skin: May result in irritation sensitisation reactions in certain individuals
Inhaled: Not normally an inhalation risk at ambient temperatures
Injected: Not normally an injection risk.
Chronic
Due to the presence of Chlorhexidine Gluconate, prolonged or repeated exposure may lead to skin
sensitivity
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information
First Aid
Centre, Ph: 13 11 26.
Swallowed: Thoroughly rinse mouth with water. Give plenty of water or bland
fluids to drink. See medical advice. Show this MSDS to a medical
practitioner.
Eye: Irrigate with copious quantities of water for 15 minutes. Seek
medical attention if irritation persists.
Skin: Remove ALL contaminated clothing. Wash area with soap and
water.
First Aid Facilities:
Toxic effects due to ingestion of Chlorhexidine should be treated by

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
Storage: Store tightly closed in original container. Store below 30oC (room
temperature). Protect from light.
Transport: Chlorhex C is not classified as a Dangerous Good for the purpose
of road or rail transport.
Spills: Wear protective clothing to prevent skin and eye contamination.
Wipe up then wash area to drain with plenty of water.
Disposal: Refer to the relevant State Land and Waste Management
Authority.
Fire/Explosion Hazard: Chlorhex C is a non-combustible liquid. In severe fire may give off
toxic or irritant fumes.
