HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS
Swallowed: May cause an acute hypersensitivity reaction.
Eye: May cause eye irritation.
Skin: May cause mild to severe allergic reactions in some individuals.
Inhalation: May cause mild to severe allergic reactions in some individuals.
CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS:
(The health effects given here refer to the bulk drug more than the finished product)
Repeated exposure may lead to sensitization. Manifestations of an allergic response may include skin rash, fever,
bronchospasm, angioedema (swelling of the lips, tongue and face accompanied by asthmatic breathing and hives)
and anaplylaxis. May also cause diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and anaemia. Target organs, therefore, include the
skin, respiratory tract, immune system, gastrointestinal tract and blood.
TOXICITY DATA:
LD50 (Rat, oral): > 7760mg/kg not acutely toxic
LD50 (Rat, IP): 927mg/kg
LC50 (Rat, Inhalation): > 8.3mg/mL
A NOEL of 30mg/kg/day was established in the dog in a 90 day toxicity study
Carcinogenicity: Negative genetox tests suggest that ceftiofur sodium is not carcinogenic

FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
Swallowed: Contact a physician or Poisons Information Centre.
Eye: Flush with water for 15 minutes.
Skin: Wash with soap and water.
Inhalation: Remove from exposure.
First Aid Facilities: No specific recommendation.
ADVICE TO DOCTOR:
Serious acute hypersensitivity reactions may require treatment with epinephrin, and other emergency measures
including oxygen, intravenous fluids, intravenous antihistamines, corticosteroids, pressor amines, and airway
management as indicated clinically.
