Skin: May cause skin irritation and mild to severe allergic reactions in some individuals.
Inhalation: May cause irritation to the respiratory passages and mild to severe allergic reactions in some
individuals.

CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS:
Overexposure may cause skin, eye and upper respiratory tract irritation or allergic reactions. Repeated
overexposure to lincomycin hydrochloride may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and colitis. This may begin
several weeks after exposure has ceased.
Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioeurotic oedema, serum sickness, and anaphylaxis have been reported from
exposure to lincomycin hydrochloride. Some of these people were known to be sensitive to penicillin. Rare
instances of erythema multiforme, some resembling Stevens-Johnsone Syndrome, have been associated with
lincomycin hydrochloride.

TOXICITY DATA:
Lincomycin hydrochloride: Rat LD50 oral 4000mg/kg
subcutaneous 9778mg/kg
intravenous 342mg/kg

Lincomycin hydrochloride: Mouse LD50 intraperitoneal 1000mg/kg
intravenous 214mg/kg

Carcinogenicity: Negative
Genotoxicity: Negative
Teratogenicity: No teratogenic effects seen in rats or dogs
Sensitivity: May cause hypersensitivity reactions

FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
Swallowed: Rinse mouth out with water ensuring that mouth wash is not swallowed. Seek medical attention.
Eye: Hold eyelids open and rinse the eye continuously with a gentle stream of clean running water for at
least fifteen minutes. Seek medical attention.
Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and wash the skin thoroughly with soap and water. Use water alone,
if soap is unavailable.
Inhalation: Remove from exposure.

ADVICE TO DOCTOR:
Treat hypersensitivity reactions as indicated clinically. Lincomycin has been shown to have neuromuscular-
