Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard: Bismuth iodide may emit toxic fumes of hydrogen iodide if involved in a fire.

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of o ur know ledge the chem ical, ph ysical and toxicolog ical pro perties of bismu th iod ide have not b een thoro ugh ly
investigated and reported.

Bismuth and bismuth compounds are often poorly absorbed. Should absorption occur, however, exposure may cause loss of
appetite, headache, skin rash, exodermatitis, kidney injury and jaundice. Repeated or prolonged exposure may cause a bismuth line or
black spots on the gums, foul breath and salivation.

Prolonged exposure to iodides m ay cause skin rash, running no se, headache and irritation of the mucou s mem branes. In
severe ca ses the skin m ay sho w pim ples, boils, redne ss, black and blue spo ts, hives and b listers. Iodides are read ily diffused across
the placenta.
Acute an d Chro nic Effects:

Inhalation: May result in inflamm ation, edema, and chemical pneumonitis. May cause coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, shortness of
breath, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Ingestion: Swallowing will lead to a strong corrosive effect on mouth and throat and to the danger of perforation of esophagus and
stomach.
Skin : May cause skin burns or irritation depending on the severity of the exposure.
Eye: Strong co rrosive effec t. May result in perm anent dam age an d com plete vision loss.

Carcino genicity: No classification data available from EPA, IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH.

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Remove to fresh air; keep warm and quiet, give oxygen if breathing is difficult, seek imm ediate medical attention.
INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. Give plenty of fluids and seek immediate medical attention.
SK IN: Remove any contaminated clothing, immediately wash with soap and water, rinse thoroughly. Seek immediate medical advice.
EYE: Flush with copious amounts of water for 15 minutes, seek medical attention.
