Extingu ishing Media: Not applicable. Use suitable extinguishing media for surrounding materials and type of fire.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Firefighters must wear full face, self-contained breathing apparatus with full protective clothing
to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Fumes from fire are hazardous. Isolate runoff to prevent environmental pollution.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: When heated to decomposition, chromium selenide may emit toxic fumes of selenium.

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of chromium selenide have not been
thoroughly investigated and recorded. Chromium is a confirmed hum an carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. Hum an
poison by inge stion with gastrointestinal effects. (Sax, Dange rous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition).

Selenium compoun ds are poison by inhalation and intravenous routes. Some selenium com pounds are experimental
carcin oge ns. Long -term exposure m ay be a cause o f am yotroph ic lateral sclerosis in hum ans, just as it may ca use "blind staggers" in
cattle. Elemental selenium h as low acute system ic toxicity, bu t dust o r fum es can cause serious irritation of the respirato ry tract.
Inorganic selenium compounds can cause dermatitis. Garlic odor of breath is a common symptom. Pallor, nervousness, depression,
digestive disturbance s and d eath hav e been reported in cases if chronic exp osure (S ax, Da ngero us Prop erties of Indu strial Materials,
eighth edition).
Acute E ffects:

Inhalation: DANGER-POISON . May cause a red, dry throat and garlic odor of breath.
Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal disorders.
Skin : May cause irritation.
Eye: May cause irritation.

Chro nic Effects:

Inhalation: May cau se pallor, nervousness, depression, histologic fibrosis of lungs, nasal and/or lung canc er.
Ingestion: No chronic health effects recorded.
Skin : May cause dermatitis.
Eye: No chronic health effects recorded.

Target Organs: May affect the respiratory system.

Routes of Entry: Inhalation, skin, ingestion
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated By Exposure: Pre-existing resp iratory and skin disord ers.

Carcino genicity: NTP: Yes IARC: Yes OSHA: Yes

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air; keep warm and quiet. Give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: Give 1-2 glasses of milk or water and induce vomiting; seek medical attention. Never induce vomiting or give
anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
SK IN: Remove contaminated clothing, brush material off skin. Wash affected area with mild soap and water. Seek medical
attention if sym ptom s persists.
EYE: Flush eyes with lukewarm water, lifting upper and lower eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if symptoms
persists.
