V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Acute E ffects:

Inhalation: Fumes are highly toxic and may cause serious systemic poisoning and possible permanent damage to the lungs. May
cause death.
Ingestion: Ma y cau se saliva tion, ch okin g, nausea, vom iting, diarrhe a and death .
Skin/Eye: May be irritating to skin, ey es, digestive tract and respiratory p assages.




Chro nic Effects:
Inhalation: May cause loss of sense of smell, occasional ulcerations of the nasal passages, rhinolaryngitis, cough, shortness of
breath. Damage to the lungs may be irreversible and there may be injury to the kidney, liver and blood. Death.
Skin/Eyes: Derm atitis and irritation of the eye s.

Routes of Entry: Contact with skin and/or eyes, inhalation, and ingestion.
Carcino genicity: NTP: Listed IARC: Listed NIOSH/OSHA: Not listed.

Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure: Individuals with lung, liver, kidney and blood ailments should be precluded from
exposure until approved by a physician.

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Get to fresh air. Seek medical attention and treat for pulmonary edem a.
INGESTION: Seek medical attention immediately. If conscious, give milk or beaten eggs every four hours to relieve
gastrointestinal irritation.
SK IN: Wash area w ith soap and water.
EYE: Flush with running water, including under the eyelids, seek medical attention.


VI REACTIVITY DATA

Incompatibility (Material to Avoid): Strong oxidizing agents/acids. Reacts exothermically with sulfur, selenium and tellurium.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material Is Released or Spilled: Contain spill, isolate hazard area and deny entry. Ventilate area of
release . Avoid m aking further d usts. Ca dm ium and its com pou nds can p ose a severe threat to the environme nt. W ater, soil, and air
contamination should be prevented.

Waste Disposal Method: Return spilled material to process or dispose of material in accordance with RCRA CFR 40 parts 261-265
or local environm ental regu lations.


VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection (Specify Type): High efficiency particulate respirator with a full faceplate, or supplied-air respirator, or
self contained breathing ap paratus.
Ventilation: Local exhaust is required for dust or fume.

Protective Gloves: General latex type for powd ers
Eye Protection: Close fitting safety goggles
Other Protective Equipment: We ar pro tective clothing. C ontact lenses should n ot be wo rn w hen airbo rne d ust is pre sent.




IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storing: Care mu st be tak en to prev ent fires wh en ca dm ium dust o r powd er are present.
Cadmium should be stored in a dry covered place.

Wo rk Practices: Scrupulo us atten tion to perso nal hygiene an d prope r protective me asure s are essential w hen cadm ium and its
compounds are stored, handled or processed in any way. Washing thoroughly after handling and before eating, drinking, and
smoking.

Engineering Co ntro ls: Use special vacuum cleaners and dust collectors with high efficiency filters to collect dust or powders. Large
amounts of dust should be caught in bag house.

Hygienic Practices: In areas of cadmium exposure, showering after each work shift is recommended. Clothing worn in areas of
cadmium exposure should be restricted to the workplace and laundered regularly.

Maintenance Personnel: If working in the same area, they should follow same w ork and hygienic practices as everyone else.
Other Precautions: Refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking in the work place.
