IV FIRE AND EXPLOSION DA TA

Flash Point (Method Used): N/E or N /A Method U sed: Non-flam ma ble
Flam mab le Limits: Upper: N/A Lower: N/A Autoignition Temperature: No data

Extingu ishing Media: Use suitable extinguishing media for surrounding materials and type of fire.
Special Firefighting Procedures: Firefighters m ust w ear fu ll face, self-con tained breathing apparatus with full pro tective clothing to
prevent contact with skin and eyes. Fumes from fire are hazardous. Isolate runoff to prevent environmental pollution.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazard: When heated to decomposition, sodium telluride may emit toxic fumes of tellurium.

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of sodium telluride have not been
thoroughly investigated and recorded.

Sodium com pounds have variable toxicity. Sodium ions as such is practically nontoxic.

Elemental tellurium has relatively low toxicity. It is converted in the body to dimethyl telluride which imparts a garlic-like
odor to the breath and sweat. Heavy exposures may, in addition, result in headache, drowsiness, metallic taste, loss of appetite,
nausea, tremors, convulsions, and respiratory arrest. (Sax, Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition)

Acute an d Chro nic Effects:
Inhalation: May cause a dry mouth, garlic odor to breath, sweat, urine, anorexia, nausea, depression and somnolence.
Ingestion: May cause dry mouth, suppression of sweat, garlic odor to breath, urine, anorexia, nausea, depression and somnolence.
Skin : May cause irritation, itching, d ermatitis.
Eye: May cause irritation.

Target Organs: May affect the skin and central nervous system.

Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing skin disorde rs.
Carcino genicity: NTP? No IARC M onograph? No OSHA Regulated? No

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air, keep warm and quiet; give oxygen if breathing is difficult and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: Give 1-2 glasses of milk or water and induce vomiting; seek medical attention. Never induce vomiting or give
anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
SK IN: Brush off material, then flush affected area with plenty of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
EYE: Flush eyes with plenty of w ater for at least 15 m inutes. Seek me dical attention if sym ptom s persist.

VI REACTIVITY DATA

Co nditio ns to Av oid: None
Incompatibility (Material to Avoid): Moisture, acids.

Haz ardous D ecomposition Produc ts: Fumes of tellurium.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES

Steps to Be Taken in Case Material is Spilled or Released: We ar appropriate respira tory and protective equipm ent specified in
section VIII. Isolate spill area and provide ventilation. Vacuum up spill using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA ) air filter
and place in a closed container fo r proper d isposal. Tak e care not to raise dust.

Waste Disposal Method: Dispose o f in accord ance w ith Loca l, State and Federal regu lations.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection: NIOSH approved respirator.
Ventilation: Local exhaust ventilation may be necessary to control any air contaminants to within their PEL's or TLV's during the
use of this product. Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control airborne levels below
recommended exposure limits. General exhaust is not recommended.

Protective Gloves: Rubber gloves
Eye Protection: Safety glasses an d goggles.

Other Protective Equipment: Protective gear suitable to prevent contamination.

IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store in a co ol, dry area. Store in tightly sealed container. Wa sh tho roughly
after handling.

Other Precautions: Sodium telluride deco mp oses in air. Handle and store in a con trolled environme nt.
