Special Firefighting Procedures: Firefighters m ust w ear fu ll face, self-con tained breathing apparatus with full pro tective clothing to
prevent contact with skin and eyes. Fumes from fire are hazardous. Isolate runoff to prevent environmental pollution.
Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: When heated to decomposition, sodium titanate may emit toxic fumes of Na 2O.
V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effects of Exposure:
To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of sodium titanate have not been
thoroughly investigated and recorded.
Sodium com pounds have variable toxicity. Sodium ions as such is practically nontoxic.
Titanium is generally considered to be physiologically inert. There are no reported cases in the literature where titanium as
such has cause human intoxication. The dusts of titanium or most titanium compounds such as titanium oxide may be placed in the
nuisa nce category. (Sax, Dan gero us Prope rties of In dustrial M aterials, eig hth edition.)
Acute an d Chro nic Effects:
Inhalation: May cause irritation to the u pper respiratory tract an d mucou s mem branes.
Ingestion: No health effects recorded.
