Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Firefighters must wear full face, self-contained breathing apparatus with full protective clothing
to preve nt contac t with skin an d eyes.
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazard: Titanium carbide is highly flam ma ble. Contact with acids a nd alkalis releases flamm able g ases.
When heated to decomposition may release metal oxide fume.
V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
Effects of Exposure:
To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of titanium carbide have not been
thoroughly investigated and reported.
Titanium and titanium co mpo unds are considered p hysiologically inert. There are no repo rted cases in the literature where
titanium as such has caused human intoxication.
Acute E ffects:
Inhalation: Ma y cau se m ild irritation of the nose and throa t.
Ingestion: Ma y be irritating to the g astroin testinal tract.

flamm able gase s.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur
VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES
Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled: We ar appropriate respira tory and protective equipm ent specified in
section VIII. Scoop up or vacuum using a high efficiency particulate absolute (HEPA) air filter and place in a closed container for
proper d isposal. Tak e care not to raise dust.
Waste Disposal Method: Consult Federal, State, or Local authorities for proper disposal procedures in your area.
VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: Use su itable respirato r wh en high conc entrations are pre sent.
Ventilation: Use local exhaust (fume hood). General exhaust is recommended.
Protective Gloves: Impervious gloves
Eye Protection: Safety glasses
Other Protective Equipment: Protective work clothing.
IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in tightly sealed containers. Keep ignition sources
away. Protect again st electro static charges. Fum es can com bine with air to form an ex plosiv e m ixture . Do not sto re tog ether with
oxidizing and acidic materials. Do not store together with alkalies (caustic solutions). Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
Wo rk Practices: Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure. Use good
housekeeping and sanitation practices. Do not use tobacco or food in work area. Wash thoroughly before eating or smoking. Do not
blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air. Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing, safety drench shower and
facilities for washing.
