IV FIRE AND EXPLOSION H AZARDS DATA

Flash Point: N/A Autoignition Temperature: N/E or N /A
Explosive Lim its: Lower: N/A Upper: N/A

Extingu ishing Media: Flammable solid. If involved in fire, DO NOT USE W ATER, C0 2, OR HALOGENATED
EXT INGU ISHING A GEN TS. Use dry chemical extinguishing agents, dry sand or dry dolomite.
Special Firefighting Procedures: Use normal procedures which include wearing NIOSH/MSHA approved self-contained breathing
apparatus, flame and chemical resistant clothing; hats, boots and gloves. If without risk, remove material from fire area. Cool
container with water from m aximum d istance.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Contact with water releases hydrogen (exp losive).

V HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

Effects of Exposure:

To the best of our knowledge the acute and chronic toxicity of strontium is not fully known. Strontium has a low order of
toxicity. As with calcium, the toxicity is generally a function of the anion.

Acute E ffects:

Inhalation: Powder or dust may cause irritation.
Ingestion: May cause vomiting, diarrhea and colic.
Skin Contact: May cause irritation.
Eye Contact: May cause irritation.
Chro nic Effects: Skin contact may cause dermatitis. No other chronic effects are known.

Carcino genicity: NTP: No IARC: No OSHA: No

EMERG ENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

INHALATION: Supply fresh air. If required, provide artificial respiration. Keep patient warm. Seek immediate medical advice.
INGESTION: Seek immediate medical attention.
SK IN: Immediately wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly. Seek immediate medical advice.
EYE: Imme diately flush eyes, including un der eyelids with copious am ounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Then con sult a doctor.

VI REACTIVITY DATA

Stability: Stable

Co nditio ns to Av oid: Incompatibles
Incom patibility: Wa ter/m oisture , oxid izing agen ts, acids, O 2 (air), halogen s, interhalogens.

Haz ardous D ecomposition Produc ts: Hydrogen, metal oxide fume.
Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur

Other: Oxidizes in air. Evolves hyd rogen gas from water. Finely divided metal ignites spontaneously in air.

VII SPILL OR LEAK PROC EDURES

Steps to be Taken in Case Material is Released or Spilled: Wear full protective equipment, ensure adequate ventilation, keep away
from ignition sou rces. Cove r spill with dry sand or ve rmiculite. M ix well and carefully transfer to a co ntainer. Do no t flush w ith
water o r aqueous clean sing age nts.

Waste Disposal Method: Con sult state, local or federal EP A regulations fo r proper d isposal.

VIII SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection: High efficiency particle respirator.

Ventilation: Glove bag or box with a dry inert atmosphere preferred.

Protective Gloves: Impervious gloves
Eye Protection: ANSI app roved safety goggles.

Other Protective Equipment: Protective work clothing.

IX SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Precautions to Be Taken in Handling and Storage: Store under kerosene or mineral oil or dry, inert gas to prevent oxidation. Keep
container tightly sealed. Store in cool, dry place in tightly closed containers. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Other Precautions: Store away fro m w ater/m oisture . Store away fro m a ir. Do not sto re tog ether with oxid izing and acidic
materials. Store away from halogens. Protect from humidity and water. Keep ignition sources away.
Wo rk Practices: Implement engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain concentration of exposure. Use good
housekeeping and sanitation practices. Do not use tobacco or food in work area. Wash thoroughly before eating or smoking. do not
blow dust off clothing or skin with compressed air. Maintain eyewash capable of sustained flushing, safety drench shower and
