FIRST-AID MEASURES EYES: Flush with water for 15 minutes. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
SKIN: Flush with water, then wash thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash
before reuse. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
INHALATION: Remove the victim from exposure and move to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If
not breathing, give artificial respiration. Keep victim quiet and warm. Seek immediate medical attention.
INGESTION: Drink water and seek immediate medical attention. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Never give
anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

FIRE-FIGHTING INFORMATION Use media suitable to extinguish the supporting or surrounding fire. Wear NIOSH (or equivalent) approved self
contained breathing apparatus. For small fires only: use carbon dioxide, dry powder or foam. Sodium Azide
reacts with many heavy metals to form explosive compounds. Contact with acids liberates very toxic and
explosive gas, hydrazoic acid vapor. Sodium Azide reacts with water slowly to form hydrazoic acid.
Flash Point = No data available.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing including lab coat, safety glasses, gloves and
NIOSH-approved respirator. Collect in a manner that does not create dust and place in a suitable waste
container. Avoid contact of material with skin or eyes. Use adequate ventilation.

HANDLING AND STORAGE Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing including lab coat, safety glasses and gloves.
Avoid contact of material with skin or eyes. Use adequate ventilation. Store at -20掳C away from incompatible
material.

PERSONAL PROTECTION Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing including lab coat, safety glasses and gloves. A
qualified industrial hygienist should evaluate the need for respiratory protection. Use respiratory protection
approved by NIOSH (or equivalent) and appropriate to the hazard. Avoid contact of material with skin or eyes.
Mechanical ventilation or local exhaust as needed to control exposure to dust, vapors or mists. Access to a
safety shower and eye-wash.

STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Product is stable. Do not allow solutions containing Sodium Azide to concentrate. Avoid contact with metals
and acids. Sodium Azide may react with lead and copper plumbing to form highly explosive metal azides.
Copper and lead azides are more sensitive than nitroglycerine. Sodium Azide reacts with metal halides to give a
range of metal halides, many of which are explosive. Contact with acids liberates very toxic and explosive gas,
hydrazoic acid vapor. Dimethyl Sulfate is incompatible with Sodium Azide. Hazardous decomposition products
include nitrogen oxides and hydrazoic acid. Hazardous polymerization will not occur.

TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:
It has been determined that at product concentrations, this material is NOT CLASSIFIED AS HAZARDOUS
under the OSHA Hazard Communications standard or the UK Chemicals Hazard Information and Packaging
(CHIP) regulations. Even though the above listed product is not defined as hazardous by the OSHA Hazard
Communication Standard or the CHIP regulations, the material should be handled with appropriate caution and
under competent supervision. Good manufacturing and laboratory procedures should be used. Protective
gloves, safety glasses, lab coat and access to a safety shower and eyewash are recommended.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Sodium Azide (NaN3) is highly toxic and reactive in the pure form. At this product鈥檚 concentration, though not
classified as hazardous, build-ups of Sodium Azide may react with lead and copper plumbing to form highly
explosive metal azides.
