4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Swallowed:
If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting. If conscious, give 1 to 2 glasses of water to drink. If irritation persists
transport to hospital or doctor.

Eye:
If dust enters the eyes, flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, ensuring eye lids are held open. If irritation
persists, immediately transport to hospital or doctor.

Skin:
If dust falls onto the skin, remove any contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation
persists transport to hospital or doctor.

Inhaled:
Move victim to fresh air. Apply resuscitation if victim is not breathing - If trained personnel available administer
oxygen if breathing is difficult.

First Aid Facilities:
Eye wash fountain, safety shower and normal wash room facilities.

Advice to Doctor:
Treat symptomatically.
In case of poisoning, contact Poisons Information Centre
In Australia call Tel: 131126

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
Fire/Explosion Hazard
If safe to do so, move undamaged containers from fire area.
Suitable Extinguishing Media: Use dry chemical, foam or carbon dioxide.
Hazards From Combustion Products: Primary decomposition products include oxides of carbon and small quantities
of noxious smoke.
Precautions for Fire Fighters and Special Protective Equipment: Fire fighters to wear Self-contained breathing
apparatus (SCBA) in confined spaces, in oxygen deficient atmospheres or if exposed to products of decomposition. Full
protective clothing is also recommended.

FLAMMABILITY
This material is not a combustible or flammable solid. However, if this product is dispersed in air a potential for a dust
explosion is possible.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Emergency Procedures:
Avoid generating dusts. DO NOT BREATH DUST, DO NOT ALLOW CONTACT WITH SKIN or eyes. Wear
suitable protective equipment when handling this product and use common sense.

Methods and Materials for Containment and Clean Up Procedures:
Wear suitable protective equipment. This product is a heavy powder. If safe to do so, wet area to prevent high dust
levels. Shovel up any spill or if available, use dustless methods, such as a HEPA vacuum and filter. Place waste into
suitably labelled container for disposal. DO NOT DRY SWEEP.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Precautions for Safe Handling:
Avoid generating and inhaling dusts. Provide adequate ventilation. For further information please refer to the
Engineering Controls of this MSDS.

Conditions for Safe Storage:
Keep containers tightly closed, when not using the product. DO NOT STORE ABOVE 49掳C. Store in original packages
as approved by manufacturer. Store away from hydrofluoric acid.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards

No exposure standards are available for this product, however, the following exposure standards have been assigned by
[ASCC/NOHSC] to the following components of the product:

CRYSTALLINE SILICA - QUARTZ
[ASCC/NOHSC]
[TWA] 0.2 mg/m3

TALC
[ASCC/NOHSC]
[TWA] 2.5 mg/m3

PYROMELLITIC DIANHYDRIDE
No exposure standards are available, however, this ingredient is considered to be a sensitizer by skin and by inhalation.

Sen Notation:
Some substances can cause a specific immune response in some people. Such substances are called sensitisers and the
development of a specific immune response is termed 'sensitisation'. Exposure to a sensitiser, once sensitisation has
occurred, may manifest itself as a skin rash or inflammation or as an asthmatic condition, and in some individuals this
reaction can be extremely severe. Substances which are known to act as sensitisers are designated by the notation 'Sen'.

Engineering Controls
Maintain adequate ventilation at all times. In most circumstances natural ventilation systems are adequate

Personal Protection Equipment
GLOVES: Neoprene rubber.
EYES: Chemical goggles or spectacles with side shields to protect eyes.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of dusts. The use of a respirator is not normally required,
however, if dusts are generated then the use of a suitable dust mask or half-face respirator fitted with a P1 filter is
recommended. All respirators must comply with AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
CHEMICAL STABILITY:
Stable under normal conditions of use.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID:
Warm storage, ignition sources and moisture contamination.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS:
Hydrofluoric acid and oxidizing agents.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:
Primary decomposition products include oxides of carbon and small quantities of noxious smoke.

HAZARDOUS REACTIONS:
Will not occur.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
No adverse health effects are expected, if the product is handled in accordance with this Material Safety Data Sheet and
the product label. Symptoms and effects that may arise if the product is mishandled and overexposure occurs are:

ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS:
Swallowed:
May cause irritation to mouth, throat and stomach with effects including pains in the stomach, which may lead to
nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Eye:
Will cause severe irritation to the eyes with effects including: tearing, pain, corneal opacity and blurred vision. If
prompt action is not taken permanent eye damage may occur.

Skin:
May cause irritation to the skin, with effects including, redness and itchiness.

Inhaled:
Dusts may cause irritation to the nose, throat and respiratory system with effects including: Sneezing, coughing,
mucous build-up and chest pains.

Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated contact with this substance will cause sensitisation by inhalation. Prolonged or repeated contact
with this substance will cause sensitisation by skin contact. Prolonged or repeated inhalation exposure may lead to
cancer.

Crystalline Silica:

Exposure to respirable crystalline silica may cause delayed (chronic) lung disease known as silicosis; Acute or rapidly
developing silicosis may occur in a period of time in heavy exposure in certain occupations such as sandblasting,
quarrying or mining. The onset may increase with heavy smoking or poor hygiene.

The International Agency for the Research of Cancer (IARC) enabled a Working Group who reported that there is
sufficient evidence for the classification of crystalline silica as a Confirmed Human Carcinogen (Group I) (IARC,
1997,V.68).

In line with the IARC decision, ASCC/NOHSC has classified ALL forms of crystalline silica as CONFIRMED
HUMAN CARCINOGEN (CATEGORY 1). Established human carcinogens are those substances known to be
carcinogenic to humans. There is sufficient evidence to establish a casual association between human exposure to these
substances and the development of cancer.
