3. COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
SUBSTANCE NAME Proportion CAS Number
ETHYL 2-CYANOACRYLATE > 90 % 7085-85-0
POLY METHYL METHACRYLATE 1 to 10 % 9011-14-7

This product may contain residual methyl methacrylate monomer, however, the quantity is believed to be far below that
required for reporting according to the EU criteria.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Information for first aid and casualty on treatment for adhesion of human skin to itself if caused by
cyanoacrylate adhesives.

Cyanoacrylate adhesive is a very fast setting and strong adhesive. It bonds human tissue including skin in seconds.
Experience has shown that accidents due to cyanoacrylates are handled best by passive, non-surgical first aid.
Treatment of specific types of accidents are given below.

SKIN ADHESION: First immerse the bonded surface in warm soapy water. Peel or roll the surfaces apart with the
aid of a blunt edge, e.g. a spatula or a teaspoon handle; then remove adhesive from the skin with soap and water. Do
not try to pull surfaces apart with a direct opposing action.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES (Continued)
EYELID TO EYELID OR EYEBALL ADHESION: In the event that eyelids are stuck together or bonded to the
eyeball, wash thoroughly with warm water and apply a gauze patch. The eye will open without further action, typically
in 1 - 4 days. There will be no residual damage. Do not try to open the eyes by manipulation.

ADHESIVE ON THE EYEBALL: Cyanoacrylate introduced into the eyes will attach itself to the eye protein and
will disassociate from it over an indeterminable period, generally covering several hours. This will cause periods of
weeping until clearance is achieved. During the period of contamination, double vision may be experienced together
with a lachrymatory effect, and it is important to understand the cause and realize that disassociation will normally
occur within a matter of hours, even with gross contamination.

MOUTH: If lips are accidentally stuck together, apply lots of warm water to the lips and encourage maximum wetting
and pressure from saliva inside the mouth. Peel or roll lips apart. Do not try to pull the lips with direct opposing action.

It is almost impossible to swallow cyanoacrylate. The adhesive solidifies and adheres in the mouth. Saliva will lift the
adhesive in 1/2 to 2 days. In case a lump forms in the mouth, position the patient to prevent ingestion of the lump when
it detaches.

BURNS: Cyanoacrylates give off heat on solidification. In rare cases a large drop will increase in temperature enough
to cause a burn.

Burns should be treated normally after the lump of cyanoacrylate is released from the tissue as described above.

SURGERY: It should never be necessary to use such a drastic method to separate accidentally bonded skin.

INHALATION: Move to fresh air. If symptoms persist, call a doctor.

INGESTION: Saliva should lift the adhesive in 12 to 48 hours. Do not force removal. Do not swallow the adhesive
when it loosens.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use extinguishing media suitable for surrounding fire situation.
HAZARDS FROM COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: On combustion or on thermal decomposition (pyrolysis), there
will be a release of oxides of carbon.
PRECAUTIONS FOR FIRE FIGHTERS AND SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA) required for fire -fighting personnel. If possible to do so safely, shut off fuel to fire. Use
water spray to spray to cool fire-exposed surfaces and to protect personnel.

Hazchem Code: None allocated. [Aust]

Flammability
This material is a Combustible (C1) Liquidwhen in the tube, but because of its rapid setting when exposed to air, the
product is considered to be non-flammable.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Emergency Procedures:
Combustible liquid. Avoid all sources of ignition. Keep unnecessary people away; Isolate hazard area and deny entry.
Ventilate area. Wear suitable protective equipment as outlined under personal protection in this MSDS.

Methods and Materials for Containment and Clean Up Procedures:
Ventilate area. Flood with water to polymerize cyanoacrylate adhesive and to control product vapors. Soak up with an
inert absorbent or scrape up cured product. Place into suitably labeled drum for later disposal.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Precautions for Safe Handling:
Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid breathing of vapours. Store in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. Store
away from sources of heat or ignition. Store away from oxidizing agents. Store below 248 C, to maximize shelf-life.

Conditions for Safe Storage:
Keep containers tightly closed, when not using the product. Store in original packages as approved by manufacturer.
Store in an area that is dry and well-ventilation away from ignition sources. For further information please refer to the
Engineering Controls of this MSDS.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards

No exposure standards are available for this product, and no exposure standards have been assigned by [NOHSC],
however, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)have the following exposure
standard for:

ETHYL 2-CYANOACRYLATE
(ACGIH)
[TWA]0.2 ppm 1 mg/m3

Engineering Controls
Maintain adequate ventilation at all times. In most circumstances natural ventilation systems are adequate.

Personal Protection Equipment
GLOVES: Not normally required, however, if product has spilt, or package is broken, then the use of neoprene gloves
is recommended.
EYES : Chemical goggles or spectacles to protect eyes.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of vapours. Select and use respirators in accordance with AS/NZS
1715/1716. In normal use situations the use of a respirator is not required, however, if exposure standards are exceeded
then the use of an half-face organic vapour respirator is recommended. Filter capacity and respirator type depends on
exposure levels and type of contaminant. If entering spaces where the airborne concentration of a contaminant is
unknown then the use of a Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with positive pressure air supply complying with
AS/NZS 1715 / 1716, or any other acceptable International Standard is recommended.

Will not occur.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS
Swallowed:
It is almost impossible to swallow cyanoacrylates. The adhesive solidifies and adheres in mouth. Lips may become
stuck together.

Eye:
Will cause irritation to the eyes, with effects including: tearing, pain, stinging and blurred vision. Cyanoacrylates may
bond eyelid to eyelid and / or eye.

Skin:
Will cause irritation to the skin, with effects including; Redness, itchiness, and possible dermatitis. Cyanoacrylates bond
skin rapidly and strongly. A large drop may cause burns upon solidification.

Inhaled:
Will cause irritation to the nose, throat and respiratory system with effects including: Dizziness, headache, coughing,
loss of co-ordination and chest pains. Vapor is irritating to nose and bronchial passages.

Chronic:
Prolonged and repeated over-exposure to vapors by inhalation may produce allergic reactions with asthma-like
symptoms in sensitive individuals, however, this is only anticipated if the product contains residual methyl acrylate
monomer.

Oral LD50(rat): >5,000 mg/kg
Dermal LD50(rabbit): Not available.

12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
No information is available for this product, however, large quantities should not be discharged to waterways, sewers or
drains.

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Refer to appropriate authority in your State. Dispose of material through a licensed waste contractor or at an approved
