5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use flooding quantities of water. DO not use foam or dry chemical unless
advised to do so.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES : Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) required for fire-fighting
personnel. If possible to do so safely, shut off fuel to fire. Use water spray to spray to cool fire -exposed surfaces and to
protect personnel. Thoroughly decontaminate all protective equipment after use.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Will increase the intensity of a fire situation, incompatibilities
such as metal oxides or salts, (promoters, particularly those cobalt, iron and copper), accelerators such as dimethyl
aniline or other amines, strong acids and sanding dusts. Contact with metal salts (promo ters) can cause a violent
chemical reaction resulting in releases of significant amounts of heat that may ignite a fire or create an explosion. Do
not contaminate with acetone, as shock sensitive peroxides can be formed that can ignite with explosive force.
HAZARDS FROM COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: On combustion or on thermal decomposition (pyrolysis), there
will be a release of oxides of carbon and noxious smoke.

Flammability:
This material is a COMBUSTIBLE liquid. This product is classified as a C1 (Combustible Liquid) and must be stored
and handled according to the requirements of AS 1940 [Aust]

Flash Point: > 67掳C
Flammability Limits LEL: Not available UEL: Not available.
Will accelerate burning when involved in a fire. May explode from heating, shock, friction or contamination.
Will react explosively with hydrocarbons fuels, oils, rags, amines, strong acids. Containers may explode when heated.

Hazchem Code: 1[Y]E [Aust]

Auto-ignition Temperature: Not available.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Emergency Procedures:
Combustible and Oxidizing Liquid. Do not contaminate. Keep combustibles (wood, paper, clothing, oil etc) away from
spilled material.
Avoid all sources of ignition. Keep unnecessary people away; Isolate hazard area and deny entry. Ventilate area. Wear
suitable protective equipment as outlined under personal protection in this MSDS.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES (Continued)
Methods and Materials for Containment and Clean Up Procedures:
Throw vermiculite or diatomaceous earth onto spill. DO NOT use sawdust. Use non-sparking tools or HEPA vacuum
system to pick up. Place into labelled drum(s) for later disposal.

Emergency information(Transport):
Dangerous Goods - Initial Emergency Response Guide (SAA/SNZ HB76:1997)
For ORGANIC PEROXIDES - Guide No: 32

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Precautions for Safe Handling:
Highly flammable liquid. Avoid ignition sources. Do not get in eyes. Avoid direct or prolonged contact with skin.
Provide adequate ventilation.

Conditions for Safe Storage:
Store in a cool place and out of direct sunlight. Store away from sources of heat or ignition, combustible (oils, fuels,
rags, etc). All equipment must be earthed. Store at temperatures below 278 C to a maximum of 328 C. Store in original
packages as approved by manufacturer. Use only glass, polypropylene, Teflon(R), ceramic containers, funnels as
measuring devices to be used to avoid metal contamination during handling. Check all packages for leaks. For further
information please refer to the Engineering Controls of this MSDS.

This product is classified as a C1 (Combustible Liquid) AS 1940 [Aust]

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards

No exposure standards are available for this product, however, the following exposure standards have been assigned by
the [NOHSC] to the following component of the product:

DIMETHYL PHTHALATE
[[NOHSC]
[TWA]5 mg/m3

Notices: H

METHYL ETHYL KETONE PEROXIDE
[NOHSC]
3
[TWA]0.2 ppm 1.5 mg/m
[STEL]Peak limitation

Peak Limitation:
For some rapidly acting substances and irritants, the averaging of the airborne concentration over an eight-hour period
is inappropriate. These substances may induce acute effects after relatively brief exposure to high concentrations and so
the exposure standard for these substances represents a maximum or peak concentration to which workers may be
exposed. Under no circumstances should a single exposure exceed 15 minutes.

Notices: H

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SOLUTION
[NOHSC]
[TWA]1 ppm 1.4 mg/m=

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION (Continued)
Engineering Controls
This product is an oxidizing agent. Store away from combustibles and acids. Maintain adequate ventilation at all times.
Prevent accumulation of vapours in hollows or sumps. Eliminate any sources of ignition. Regular sampling of the
atmosphere should be conducted routinely with all appropriate procedures and protective equipment as outlined in this
MSDS. Elevated temperature or mechanical action may form vapours, mists or fumes which may require local exhaust
ventilation systems.

Personal Protection Equipment
GLOVES: The use of neoprene is recommended.
EYES : Chemical goggles or faceshield to protect eyes.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid breathing of fumes/vapours. Select and use respirators in accordance with
AS/NZS 1715/1716. When fumes/vapours exceed the exposure standards then the use of an atmosphere-supplied,
positive pressure demand self-contained or airline breathing apparatus supplied air respirator complying with the
requirements of AS/NZS 1715 is recommended. Filter capacity and respirator type depends on exposure levels. If
entering spaces where the airborne concentration of a contaminant is unknown then the use of a Self-contained
breathing apparatus (SCBA) with positive pressure air supply complying with AS/NZS 1715 / 1716, or any other
acceptable International Standard is recommended.
